Clinical imaging examinations and the diagnosis of their findings play an important role in patientcentered interdisciplinary care. Clinical imaging tests, such as X-ray, computed tomography (CT), magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and nuclear medicine scans, are performed both in the initial diagnosis to identify the disease and at follow-up with the radiology team. Imaging technology is advancing day by day, both the hardware and software. CT and MRI are useful for confirming the size and location of lesions, providing what is known as morphologic images. CT can perform whole-body imaging very quickly, and the huge data are reconstructed in many ways with advanced computer systems. Three-dimensional CT, such as virtual colonography and bronchography, isuseful for planning the approach before surgery or endoscopic study. MRI isuseful for detecting acute cerebral infarction and evaluating brain perfusion or brain metabolites using MR spectroscopy. Fluorodeoxyglucose-positron emission tomography (FDG-PET)/CT is a molecular imaging modality mainly used in oncology for the initial diagnosis, staging and detection of recurrence or metastasis after treatment as well as the evaluation of the treatment response. The focus of this paper was to elucidate the typesand use of clinical imaging technologies, with a focus on CT, MRI and FDG-PET. J. Med.I nvest. 66:31-34, February, 2019.

Evaluation of a Deep Learning Denoising Algorithm for Dose Reduction in Whole-Body Photon-Counting CT Imaging: A Cadaveric Study.

January 2025

Department of Radiology, University Hospital Tuebingen, Hoppe-Seyler-Str. 3, 72076 Tuebingen, Germany (R.D., J.M.B., B.S., J.M., S.G., P.K., S.W., J.H., K.N., S.A., A.B.).

Rationale And Objectives: Photon Counting CT (PCCT) offers advanced imaging capabilities with potential for substantial radiation dose reduction; however, achieving this without compromising image quality remains a challenge due to increased noise at lower doses. This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of a deep learning (DL)-based denoising algorithm in maintaining diagnostic image quality in whole-body PCCT imaging at reduced radiation levels, using real intraindividual cadaveric scans.

Materials And Methods: Twenty-four cadaveric human bodies underwent whole-body CT scans on a PCCT scanner (NAEOTOM Alpha, Siemens Healthineers) at four different dose levels (100%, 50%, 25%, and 10% mAs).

Treatment options for recurrent high-risk non-muscle-invasive bladder cancer (HR NMIBC) and muscle-invasive bladder cancer (MIBC) are limited, highlighting a need for clinically effective, accessible, and better-tolerated alternatives. In this review we examine the clinical development program of TAR-200, a novel targeted releasing system designed to provide sustained intravesical delivery of gemcitabine to address the needs of patients with NMIBC and of those with MIBC. We describe the concept and design of TAR-200 and the clinical development of this gemcitabine intravesical system in the SunRISe portfolio of studies.

Emerging biomarkers in Gaucher disease.

January 2025

Center for Orphan Drug Research, Department of Experimental and Clinical Pharmacology, College of Pharmacy, University of Minnesota, Minneapolis, MN, United States. Electronic address:

Gaucher disease (GD) is a rare lysosomal disorder characterized by the accumulation of glycosphingolipids in macrophages resulting from glucocerebrosidase (GCase) deficiency. The accumulation of toxic substrates, which causes the hallmark symptoms of GD, is dependent on the extent of enzyme dysfunction. Accordingly, three distinct subtypes have been recognized, with type 1 GD (GD1) as the common and milder form, while types 2 (GD2) and 3 (GD3) are categorized as neuronopathic and severe.

January 2025

Department of Vascular Surgery, Chenzhou First People's Hospital and the First Affiliated, Hospital of Xiangnan University, Chenzhou, Hunan Province 423000, China. Electronic address:

Objective: This study sought to investigate the changes in plasma D-dimer levels during catheter-directed thrombolysis (CDT) in patients with acute lower extremity deep venous thrombosis (DVT), analyze imaging results, and assess their clinical implications.

Methods: We retrospectively analyzed 62 patients diagnosed with acute lower extremity DVT who underwent CDT between March 2019 and December 2022. Plasma D-dimer levels were measured before CDT, at regular intervals after CDT, and at the end of CDT.
