Zinc is an essential nutrient in which deficiency or excess exposure can result in adverse health effects. Several organizations have established exposure guidance values to protect against deficiency and toxicity. Population-level biomonitoring data for zinc in whole blood, serum and urine are available from the Canadian Health Measures Survey (CHMS) and the US National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES). This paper derived Biomonitoring Equivalent values (BEs) for zinc. BEs are tools based upon exposure guidance values to interpret biomonitoring data in the context of potential health risks. A regression between intake and serum/plasma concentration was derived to generate BEs for serum/plasma and whole blood. BEs for urine were derived using mass balance approach with a urine excretion fraction of 0.04. The BE values for deficiency ranged from 860 to 866, 6017-6059 and 159-206 μg/L for serum/plasma, whole blood and urine, respectively. BEs to protect against toxicity for serum/plasma, whole blood, and urine were in the range of 895-1281, 6265-8969 and 439-3489 μg/L, respectively. When interpreting biomonitoring data in a health-risk context, urinary zinc may be a more reliable biomarker of exposure than blood due to homeostasis in blood.

Background: Global public health was recently hampered by reported widespread spread of new coronavirus illness, although morbidity and fatality rates were low. Future coronavirus infection rates may be accurately predicted over a long-time horizon, using novel bio-reliability approach, being especially well suitable for environmental multi-regional health and biological systems. The high regional dimensionality along with cross-correlations between various regional datasets being challenging for conventional statistical tools to manage.

The microplastics (MPs), due to their high dispersion and bioaccumulation rates, have been identified in various animal groups, such as anuran amphibians during both larval and adult stages. However, current studies on adult anuran amphibians focus on assessing only one exposure route, the digestive system, while other routes remain underestimated. Therefore, this present study aimed to evaluate the degree of contamination in the digestive, respiratory, and integumentary systems, in situ, of two endemic Amazonian adult anuran species (Physalaemus ephippifer and Boana multifasciata).

Aims: To investigate adolescents' perception of the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on several aspects of their lives (mental health, well-being, family situation, peers, school, dieting, and physical activity) in relation to risk behaviors such as smoking, alcohol use, drunkenness, and cannabis use.

Methods: Data were used from the Health Behaviour in School-aged Children (HBSC) study conducted in 2021/2022, comprising 106,221 adolescents aged 11-15 (50.9% females) from 21 European countries.

The radioactive isotope of hydrogen, known as tritium (H), is very often used as a dating tool in hydrogeological studies, since it enters the water cycle as part of the water molecule through precipitation. However, the assessment of groundwater transit times and recharge often requires knowing the local historical records of tritium levels in precipitation during the previous seven decades, or the tritium in precipitation (TIP) time series. Here, we compiled all tritium records in precipitation in Greece, with the majority of stations showing sporadic measurements, with the aim of reconstructing a TIP for groundwater dating purposes.
