The orientation and design of bileaflet valve prosthesis in the mitral position affects the intraventricular blood flow and exposure to shear. The combination of the anatomic orientation and a small gap size of the St. Jude Medical valve produces an increase in shear exposure and blood residence time, which both predispose the formation of thrombus in the high shear gaps of the valve hinges.

Background: During the 2023-dengue outbreak in Bangladesh, a diagnostic evaluation study was conducted to investigate concurrent Zika virus (ZIKV) and dengue virus (DENV) transmission in Dhaka in 2023.
Aims: The study explored to simultaneously detect the presence of ZIKV, DENV, and/or CHIKV while considering relevant clinical and epidemiological risk factors, using a real-time multiplex RT-PCR system. Following this, it was planned to sequence the selected samples to identify genetic variations of the ZIKV infections within the population.

Background: The increasing frequency and severity of extreme heat events due to climate change present unique risks to children and adolescents. There is a lack of evidence regarding how heat's impacts on pediatric patients vary spatially and how structural and sociodemographic factors drive this heterogeneity.
Objectives: We examined the association between extreme heat events and pediatric acute care utilization in California for 19 distinct health conditions.

Quantification of the non-linear relationship between arsenic (As) and physico-chemical parameters in groundwater through a Self-Organizing Map (SOM) was performed for the first time in Chapai-Nawabganj, Bangladesh. Due to the continuous assessment of groundwater quality, the spatial distribution of As with associated elements was observed for the aerial extent of contaminated groundwater. The results exhibited that 57 % and 31 % of groundwater samples (n = 35) exceeded the allowable limit of As according to the WHO recommended drinking water standard (10 μg/L) and Bangladesh Drinking Water Standard (BDWS) (50 μg/L), respectively.
