With the rapid development of cloud services, data-center applications and the Internet of Things, short-reach communications have attracted much more attention in recent years. 4-level pulse amplitude modulation (PAM4) is a promising modulation format to provide both high data rate and relatively low cost for short-reach optical interconnects. In this paper, a joint clock recovery and feed-forward equalization algorithm (CR-FFE) is proposed to simultaneously eliminate the inter-symbol interference (ISI) and track large sampling clock offset (SCO) in PAM4 transmission. The algorithm estimates timing error according to the difference between two tap coefficients of fractionally spaced equalizers, thus solving the problem of incompatible prerequisites between clock recovery and channel equalization. A 10GHz directly modulated laser (DML) based 50-Gbit/s PAM4 transmission experiment is implemented to investigate the performance of the proposed algorithm. Experimental results show that the proposed CR-FFE algorithm can resist SCO up to 1000 ppm after 40 km standard single-mode fiber (SSMF) transmission under the 2x10 SD-FEC BER threshold, which is dramatically improved comparing with that of 20 ppm in traditional CR cascaded by FFE algorithm.

Objectives: During holmium laser enucleation of the prostate (HOLEP), blunt dissection (BD) by pushing the tip of the scope may exert mechanical force on the sphincter that could be avoided by adopting laser dissection (LD). This study evaluates the continence recovery in consecutive patients who underwent BD and LD.

Methods: A prospective cohort of patients who underwent LD was compared with a retrospective control that underwent BD.

The millimeter-wave wireless transmission system is widely regarded as a promising solution for applications of future 6G communication. This paper presents an experimental comparison between all-optical and all-electric receivers for millimeter-wave communication systems over a 15 m wireless link and demonstrates 200 m and 2 km real-time uncompressed HD video transmission using an all-optical transceiver at 100 GHz. The systems leverage photonics-assisted heterodyne beating techniques at the transmitter, while the receivers employ either an avalanche photodiode (APD)-based all-optical approach or an envelope detection-based all-electric approach.

Application of Navigated Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (nTMS) to Study the Visual-Spatial Network and Prevent Neglect in Brain Tumour Surgery.

Cancers (Basel)

Neurosurgery, Department of Neuroscience, Psychology, Pharmacology and Child Health, University Hospital of Careggi, University of Florence, 50134 Florence, Italy.

Navigated transcranial magnetic stimulation (nTMS) has seldom been used to study visuospatial (VS) circuits so far. Our work studied (I) VS functions in neurosurgical oncological patients by using repetitive nTMS (rnTMS), (II) the possible subcortical circuits underneath, and (III) the correspondence between nTMS and direct cortical stimulation (DCS) during awake procedures. We designed a monocentric prospective study, adopting a protocol to use rnTMS for preoperative planning, including VS functions for lesions potentially involving the VS network, including neurosurgical awake and asleep procedures.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to report the management of chemoimmunotherapy-resistant ocular surface squamous neoplasia (OSSN) with iodine-125 (I-125) brachytherapy.

Methods: A 36-year-old man presented to the clinic with biopsy-proven OSSN that covered ∼70% of the corneal surface and extended to the 6 o'clock position of the inferior limbus of the OS. The visual acuity was 20/20 in the OD and 20/40 in the affected OS.

Continued solicitation of cognitive resources eventually leads to cognitive fatigue (CF), i.e., a decrease in cognitive efficiency that develops during sustained cognitive demands in conditions of constrained processing time, independently of sleepiness.
