Ambulatory surgery in the pediatric population can be similar to adult ambulatory with a few different challenges. Success is best determined by appropriate preoperative screening. Issues common in pediatrics are the respiratory infection, asthma, congenital heart disease and syndromes, as well as sleep apnea. Risk factors for adverse respiratory events and patient transfer differ from adults as do data for rapid discharge.

Measurement of Blood Pressure in Children and Adolescents Outside the Office for the Diagnosis of Hypertension.

Curr Cardiol Rep

January 2025

Section of Pediatric Nephrology, Department of Pediatrics, Yale University School of Medicine, New Haven, USA.

Purpose Of Review: To review the benefits of ambulatory blood pressure monitoring and home blood pressure monitoring in children and to discuss implementation of guideline-recommended ambulatory blood pressure monitoring.

Recent Findings: Compared with office blood pressure, ambulatory blood pressure monitoring and home blood pressure monitoring provide superior accuracy, reproducibility, and stronger associations with target organ damage although future work is needed to determine the utility of home blood pressure monitoring to predict hypertension status on ambulatory blood pressure monitoring. Due to the benefits of out-of-office blood pressure measurement, ambulatory blood pressure monitoring has been recommended to confirm the diagnosis of hypertension in children and adolescents since publication of the 2017 American Academy of Pediatrics clinical practice guidelines on hypertension.

Objectives: The effects of acute physical exercise in patients with resistant hypertension remain largely unexplored compared with hypertensive patients in general. We assessed the short-term effects of acute moderate-intensity (MICE) and high-intensity interval exercise (HIIE) on the clinic (BP) and 24-h ambulatory blood pressure (ABP) of patients with resistant hypertension.

Methods: Using a crossover randomized controlled design, 10 participants (56 ± 7 years) with resistant hypertension performed three experimental sessions: MICE, HIIE, and control.

Objective: To explore the application value of Internet Family Engagement Continuum of Care in strabismus ambulatory surgery and evaluate its impact on postoperative complications, children's quality of life, and parental satisfaction.

Methods: A retrospective analysis was conducted on the clinical data of 257 children who underwent strabismus ambulatory surgery in our hospital from February 2022 to December 2023. The children were divided into a control group (n=149), which received routine nursing services and telephone follow-up, and an observation group (n=108), which received Internet Family Engagement Continuum of Care through a mobile medical platform.

Objective: To evaluate psychometrics of wearable devices measuring physical activity (PA) in ambulant children with gait abnormalities due to neuromuscular conditions.

Data Sources: We searched PubMed, Embase, PsycINFO, CINAHL, and SPORTDiscus in March 2023.

Study Selection: We included studies if (1) participants were ambulatory children (2-19y) with gait abnormalities, (2) reliability and validity were analyzed, and (3) peer-reviewed studies in the English language and full-text were available.
