Behavioral Interventions in the Treatment of Eating Disorders.

Psychiatr Clin North Am

Centre for Clinical Interventions, Perth, Western Australia, Australia.

Published: June 2019

Behavioral methods are inherent in many evidence-based treatments of eating disorders and have also been used separately. This review demonstrates that behavioral methods are necessary in the effective treatment of eating disorders-in particular, the improvement of nutrition and exposure-based methods. It is also possible that these methods are sufficient to treat anorexia nervosa, although other elements are needed on the treatment of bulimia nervosa. The impacts and mechanisms of behavioral and nutritional change merit serious attention in clinical work and research. Clinicians are often reluctant, however, to use these methods, and that needs to be the focus of supervision.

Introduction: Heart failure with preserved ejection fraction (HFpEF) is characterised by severe exercise intolerance, particularly in those living with obesity. Low-energy meal-replacement plans (MRPs) have shown significant weight loss and potential cardiac remodelling benefits. This pragmatic randomised trial aims to evaluate the efficacy of MRP-directed weight loss on exercise intolerance, symptoms, quality of life and cardiovascular remodelling in a multiethnic cohort with obesity and HFpEF.

Amino acids are crucial nutrients for growth in crops. In this study, we found an amino acid transporter-like 13 (OsATL13), that coordinately determined rice yield and quality. OsATL13 was primarily expressed in the root and panicle, its protein was localized on plasma membrane, and it principally transported phenylalanine and methionine.

Latest clinical frontiers related to autism diagnostic strategies.

Cell Rep Med

January 2025

DiMePRe-J-Department of Precision and Rigenerative Medicine-Jonic Area, University of Bari "Aldo Moro", Bari, Italy.

The diagnosis of autism is currently based on the developmental history, direct observation of behavior, and reported symptoms, supplemented by rating scales/interviews/structured observational evaluations-which is influenced by the clinician's knowledge and experience-with no established diagnostic biomarkers. A growing body of research has been conducted over the past decades to improve diagnostic accuracy. Here, we provide an overview of the current diagnostic assessment process as well as of recent and ongoing developments to support diagnosis in terms of genetic evaluation, telemedicine, digital technologies, use of machine learning/artificial intelligence, and research on candidate diagnostic biomarkers.

Colorectal surgery in multimorbid patients requires a comprehensive interdisciplinary planning of the treatment approach, from preoperative to posthospital care, in order to minimize complications and improve the patient's outcome. Therefore, the integration of the outpatient and inpatient sectors is essential as is a perioperative interdisciplinary coordinated approach. Preoperatively, all possible risks of concomitant diseases must be considered and optimized if necessary.
