The purpose of this study was to identify surface anatomy of digital nerves in relation to the pigmented border of digits. Three-hundred and sixty digital nerves in 36 preserved adult cadaveric hands were dissected under magnification. The digital nerves were constantly located anterior to the pigmented border. The median curvilinear distance along the skin from the pigmented border to the digital nerves of the index, middle, ring and little fingers was 1.4 mm. In the thumb, this distance was 2.4 and 3.7 mm on the radial and ulnar sides, respectively. The digital nerve was located 2.4 mm deep to the skin in all fingers. The median angle to the nerve from the skin at the pigmented border was 30°. These dimensions differed in the thumb compared with the rest of the fingers. We conclude that the pigmented border of digits is a reliable anatomical landmark to locate digital nerves.

Basal cell carcinoma (BCC) is the predominant nonmelanocytic skin cancer, with preservation of both function and aesthetics being essential during tumor removal. Existing surgical margin guidelines primarily target ill-defined BCCs prevalent in Western countries. Therefore, this study aims to demonstrate the efficacy of surgical removal, propose modified guidelines for wide excision tailored to Asian patients, and share experiences with various reconstruction methods.

Pregnancy-associated changes in melanocytic nevi (MN), apart from size increase on the trunk, remain a topic of debate. We conducted the first prospective study to investigate dermoscopic changes in MN comparing pregnant with non-pregnant women on all body parts using a market-approved convolutional neural network (CNN). We included 25 pregnant and 25 non-pregnant women from Basel, Switzerland, who underwent standard skin cancer screenings and whose MN > 2 mm were digitally recorded and analysed by a CNN.

Four versions of the novel Moletest on-device signal-processing analysis software, delivered on a single-application iPadPro11, were evaluated in pigmented skin lesions of patients sent for biopsy comparing its results with the lesion histology. The primary objective was to demonstrate that the nomela test provided at least 95 ± 2% sensitivity for not-melanoma. Proprietary software recognised the lesion perimeter, rejecting images with uncertain border, and performed analysis using non-scalar metrics of the image within the perimeter.

The retinal pigment epithelium (RPE) is a monolayer of pigmented cells which plays an essential role in visual function via its interaction with the adjacent neural retina. Typically hexagonal in shape and arranged in a mosaic-like pattern, RPE cells maintain a relatively uniform size and arrangement in healthy eyes. Under stress or disease conditions such as age-related macular degeneration (AMD) and other heritable vision disorders, individual RPE cell dysmorphia has been observed.

Purpose: To investigate the clinical implications of choroidal hyperreflective foci (HF) as biomarkers of disease severity in Stargardt disease (STGD).
Methods: 129 eyes from 66 patients with STGD were included. The primary outcome was the correlation between the number of foveal choroidal HF and indicators of disease severity.
