Although acid suppressants are needed to attenuate gastrointestinal bleeding (GIB) after percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI), pharmacodynamic interaction between clopidogrel and proton pump inhibitor (PPI) can increase the risk of high platelet reactivity (HPR). We sought to evaluate serial changes of platelet measures and influence of rabeprazole on platelet measures. After 600-mg clopidogrel loading for elective PCI, clopidogrel-sensitive patients were recruited and randomly assigned to add rabeprazole of daily 20 mg (n = 40) or famotidine of daily 40 mg (n = 40). Platelet measures were performed with light transmittance aggregometry and VASP-P assay. Primary endpoint was 5 μM ADP-induced platelet aggregation (PA) at 30-day follow-up. HPR was defined as 5 μM ADP-induced PA > 46%. Baseline platelet measures did not differ significantly between the groups. The 30-day level of 5 μM ADP-induced PA was similar between the famotidine vs. rabeprazole group (30.0 ± 16.4% vs. 30.2 ± 13.9%, = .956). In addition, other platelet measures were comparable between the groups. At 30-day follow-up, the incidence of HPR was similar between the famotidine and rabeprazole groups (20.5% vs. 15.4%; = .555). In conclusion, adjunctive use of rabeprazole showed the similar antiplatelet effect even in clopidogrel-sensitive patients compared with adjunctive famotidine, which may support the similar effect of rabeprazole and famotidine on the antiplatelet effect of dual antiplatelet therapy with clopidogrel plus aspirin.

Platelets are blood cells that play an integral role in hemostasis and the innate immune response. Platelet hyper- and hypoactivity have been implicated in metabolic disorders, increasing risk for both thrombosis and bleeding. Platelet activation and metabolism are tightly linked, with the numerous methods to measure the former but relatively few for the latter.

Background And Aims: The impact of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) on patients with acute-on-chronic liver failure (ACLF) remains unclear. To investigate the clinical characteristics of patients with ACLF complicated with COVID-19 in order to provide evidence for the precise treatment of this patient population.
Methods: A total of 34 ACLF patients with COVID-19 admitted to these three hospitals from December 2022 to August 2023 were included as the ACLF+COVID-19 group.

Objectives: To identify if chemotherapeutic drugs in the CHOP-based protocol led to an increase in renal parameters in dogs with lymphoma during therapy and investigate whether factors such as prednisolone use or age affected this result.
Methods: Data were obtained retrospectively from private referral practice records of dogs diagnosed with lymphoma receiving a CHOP-based chemotherapy protocol between 2015 and 2019. Dogs included received a CHOP-based protocol as their first treatment, received four full cycles and were in remission at the end of the protocol.

Background/aims: Human mesenchymal stromal cells (hMSC) are multipotent adult cells commonly used in regenerative medicine as advanced therapy medicinal products. The expansion of these cells in xeno-free supplements is highly encouraged by regulatory agencies due to safety concerns. However, the number of supplements with robust performance and consistency for hMSC expansion are limited.
