Standard procedures for the isolation of Chlamydia trachomatis require pretreatment of the tissue culture cells. We evaluated the use of cycloheximide, an antimetabolite that can be added to the cells with the inoculum. Cycloheximide-treated cells provided a sensitive system for isolating trachoma agents. This system was applicable to field studies as requirements for equipment were minimal and the cells were 2 weeks old when inoculated.

is an obligate intracellular bacteria that causes the global zoonotic disease Q Fever. Treatment options for chronic infection are limited, and the development of novel therapeutic strategies requires a greater understanding of how interacts with immune signaling. Cell death responses are known to be manipulated by , but the role of caspase-8, a central regulator of multiple cell death pathways, has not been investigated.

Though Isoimperatorin from is known to have antiviral, antidiabetic, anti-inflammatory and antitumor effects, its underlying antitumor mechanism remains elusive so far. Hence, the apoptotic mechanism of Isoimperatorin was explored in hepatocellular carcinomas (HCCs). In this study, Isoimperatorin inhibited the viability of Huh7 and Hep3B HCCs and increased the subG1 apoptotic portion and also abrogated the expression of pro-poly-ADP ribose polymerase (pro-PARP) and pro-caspase 3 in Huh7 and Hep3B cells.

Background: Human gliomas are aggressive brain tumors characterized by uncontrolled cell proliferation. Differential expression of Polycomb repressive complex 2 (PRC2) has been reported in various subtypes of glioma. However, the role of PRC2 in uncontrolled growth in glioma and its underlying molecular mechanisms remain to be elucidated.

CBL family proteins (CBL, CBLB and CBLC in mammals) are E3 ubiquitin ligases of protein tyrosine kinases. CBL mediates the lysosomal degradation of activated EGFR through K63-linked ubiquitination, while CBLC has an oncogenic function by positively regulating EGFR activation through K6 and K11-linked ubiquitination in EGFR mutant lung adenocarcinoma (LAD). Here, we used immunoprecipitation and mass spectrometry to study the CBLC interactome, and found that CBLC is also involved in cell cycle regulation by stabilizing Aurora kinase A (AURKA).

The kleptoplastic sea slug Elysia chlorotica consumes Vaucheria litorea, stealing its plastids, which then photosynthesize inside the animal cells for months. We investigated the properties of V. litorea plastids to understand how they withstand the rigors of photosynthesis in isolation.
