Objectives: To compare the effect of low-volume HIIT to moderate-intensity aerobic training (MICT) on fat mass, cardiometabolic profile and physical capacity and confirm its feasibility in older women.
Methods: Inactive older women (60-75 years) were randomly assigned to 8 weeks of either HIIT (75 min/week; n=9) or MICT (150 min/week; n=9). Body composition, fasting metabolic profile, cardiovascular risk (Framingham score), and physical capacity (senior fitness test, VO2peak) were assessed before and after the intervention. Feasibility was evaluated with (training compliance; dropout rate) and (Feeling scale; pre- and post-exercise).
Results: Total cholesterol, non-HDL-C levels and the Framingham risk score decreased in both groups (all ≤0.03). Although VO2peak remained unchanged, the 6MWT distance increased (<0.0001), irrespective of the group. Completion rate and affective responses were not different between groups (all ≥0.38).
Conclusion: A short-term HIIT program is feasible and provides as much benefits as MICT in older women.

We have previously demonstrated that subgingival levels of nitrate-reducing bacteria, as well as the in vitro salivary nitrate reduction capacity (NRC), were diminished in periodontitis patients, increasing after periodontal treatment. However, it remains unclear if an impaired NRC in periodontitis can affect systemic health. To determine this, the effect of nitrate-rich beetroot juice (BRJ) on blood pressure was determined in 15 periodontitis patients before and 70 days after periodontal treatment (i.

Purpose: Competitive cheerleading (cheersport) is a physically demanding sport; however, there is a lack of information regarding its acute physiological responses during training or competition in these athletes. Thus, this study aimed to investigate these responses during both training sessions and simulated cheerleading competition routines (full-outs) among elite cheersport athletes.
Methods: Six Coed and 10 All Girl elite cheerleaders were included in this study.

Purpose: The assessment of lactate threshold (LT) and its relationship to open-water (OW) performance is crucial. This study aimed (1) to analyze LT in world-class OW swimmers, (2) to compare swimming speed at LT (SSLT) and 4 mmol·L-1 of blood lactate concentration ([La-]; SS4), and (3) to examine the relationships between SSLT and swimming performance.
Methods: Twenty world-class and elite (11 male, 26.

Precise detection of ultralow-level antibiotics, such as picomole, in aqueous environments is significant for human health, however, it presents a great challenge to the adsorption capacity and electrocatalytic ability of sensing materials. Here, we used a one-step hydrothermal method to in situ grow spindle-like CoFe-based metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) with a size of about 50 nm in the region of hydrophilic MXene-loading hydrophobic carbon paper. By combining MOFs with abundant adsorption sites and MXene with high conductivity, the problems of adsorption and electrons transfer of ultralow-level antibiotics have been solved, and achieving precise detection of picomole-level antibiotics.

Objective: The present study aims to analyze the effectiveness of a gait re-education program using a sequential square mat (Tapiz Fisior®, in advance SSM Fisior®) in aspects related to mobility, balance, muscle strength, and gait of elderly people.
Methods: The intervention lasted eight weeks through progressive resistance training designed specifically for older people, with an approximate duration of 30-40 min, and was carried out three times a week on non-consecutive days using the SSM Fisior®.
Result: The intervention improved gait, balance, physical performance, lower limb strength, and walking speed.
