Background: Cabbage (Brassica oleracea var. capitata) is popular worldwide for consumption as a leafy vegetable. Premature flowering is triggered by low temperature, and deteriorates quality of cabbage as vegetable. In general, growers prefer late-flowering varieties to assure good quality compact head. Here, we report BoFLC1.C9 as a gene with clear sequence variation between cabbage lines with different flowering times, and proposed as molecular marker to characterize early- and late-flowering cabbage lines.
Results: We identified sequence variation of 67 bp insertions in intron 2, which were contributed in flowering time variation between two inbred lines through rapid down-regulation of the BoFLC1.C9 gene in early-flowering line compared to late-flowering one upon vernalization. One set of primer 'F7R7' proposed as marker, of which was explained with 83 and 80% of flowering time variation in 141 F individuals and 20 commercial lines, respectively.
Conclusions: This F7R7 marker could be used as genetic tools to characterize flowering time variation and to select as well to develop early- and late-flowering cabbage cultivars.

Short-chain enoyl-CoA hydratase 1 deficiency (ECHS1D) is a rare genetic disorder caused by biallelic pathogenic variants in the ECHS1 gene. ECHS1D is characterised by severe neurological and physical impairment that often leads to childhood mortality. Therapies such as protein and single nutrient-restricted diets show poor efficacy, whereas the development of new treatments is hindered by the low prevalence of the disorder and a lack of model systems for treatment testing.

As an important source of pollution in the papermaking process, the presence of lignin in poplar can seriously affect the quality and process of pulping. During lignin synthesis, Caffeoyl-CoA-O methyltransferase (CCoAOMT), as a specialized catalytic transferase, can effectively regulate the methylation of caffeoyl-coenzyme A (CCoA) to feruloyl-coenzyme A. Targeting CCoAOMT, this study investigated the substrate recognition mechanism and the possible reaction mechanism, the key residues of lignin binding were mutated and the lignin content was validated by deep convolutional neural-network model based on genome-wide prediction (DCNGP).

Background: Heredity and epigenetics affect the pathogenesis of microscopic polyangiitis (MPA). Tyrosine kinase 2 (TYK2) polymorphisms (rs2304256C > A, rs280519A > G, and rs12720270G > A) may be potential protective factors against anti-neutrophil cytoplasmic antibody (ANCA)-associated vasculitis (AAV). Current research suggests that TYK2 is associated with various autoimmune diseases; however, no study has examined the relationship between TYK2 polymorphisms and AAV.

Pancreatic adenosquamous carcinoma (PASC) is a rare subtype of pancreatic cancer (PC), with no established consensus on the optimal treatment for postoperative liver metastasis recurrence. We report a case of a 48-year-old male patient who underwent radical surgery and was pathologically diagnosed with microsatellite instability-high (MSI-H) PASC. The patient experienced liver metastasis recurrence following single-agent gemcitabine adjuvant chemotherapy.

Background: Lichen planus (LP), an autoimmune disorder, remains incompletely understood in terms of its etiological mechanisms. This study aims to elucidate causal relationships among immune cell populations, plasma metabolites, and lichen planus using Mendelian randomization (MR) techniques.
Methods: Employing a two-sample, two-step MR approach, with single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNP) serving as genetic instruments for both exposures and mediators, this study minimizes biases from confounding and reverse causality.
