Gynaecological infections are frequent in women, particularly in young women during their reproductive time. Anatomophysiologically, Bartholin's gland is greatly susceptible to infections and is characterised by an inherent polymicrobial population. In fact, gynaecological microbiota has a set of agents coming from the perianal region that colonise the vagina and, in particular, Bartholin's gland. Taking this into account, infections caused by agents that do not belong to the genital microbiota are less frequent. Introduction: While vulvar masses are not prevalent in society, they are one of the reasons for complaints that arise during visits to gynecology outpatient clinics. An excision is typically necessary for both the purpose of diagnosing and treating the condition.
Methods: We documented three exceptional instances with distinct histopathological diagnoses and varying presentations, as well as a consecutive series of five patients, including one Bartholin abscess and one labia major abscess.

Bartholinitis is the inflammation and infection of the Bartholin's glands that results from the accumulation of mucus in their ducts, the most frequent causal microorganisms being anaerobic and aerobic bacteria and those responsible for sexually transmitted infections. Those caused by agents not belonging to the genital microbiota are less frequent. Likewise, in most cases the diagnosis is clinical.
Vulvar leiomyomas are rare benign tumors originating from smooth muscle cells of the vulvar tissue. This report concerns a 31-year-old woman who presented with a painless vulvar mass measuring 5 × 4 cm. The mass was clinically diagnosed as a Bartholin cyst due to its non-tender and soft nature, and as a result the patient underwent wide local excision of the vulvar mass.
Concomitant with the rupture of the cloacal membrane, the perineal skin epithelium thickens (see accompanying article). In this study, we establish in female embryos and foetuses that the thick skin area divides into ventral and dorsal areas at ~14 weeks and gradually becomes restricted to the vaginal vestibule and anal canal thereafter. The dense mesenchymal core of the labia minora, which forms at ~8 weeks, extends dorsally to the anal canal as a midline reinforcement.

Full labia minora reconstruction can be necessary due to congenital malformation or genetic syndromes, but more often is required following oncologic excisions, or debridements after vulvar or perineal infections. It is important to note that full labia reconstruction can be needed after genital mutilation, or iatrogenic deformity after previous labia reduction procedure. A 37-year-old female patient, with vulvar necrotizing fasciitis after a marsupialization of the right Bartholin's gland, was referred to the Gynecology and Obstetrics unit.
