Article Synopsis
  • Percutaneous PFO closure is a common procedure aimed at preventing paradoxic embolism and reducing the risk of stroke in selected patients.
  • Different guidance methods, like transesophageal echocardiography and intracardiac echocardiography, are used during the procedure, each with specific benefits and drawbacks.
  • Transesophageal echocardiography provides detailed imaging but requires additional staff and patient sedation, while intracardiac echocardiography allows a single operator to perform the procedure without needing conscious sedation.

Transfemoral hepatic vein catheterization reduces procedure time in double vein embolization.

CVIR Endovasc

May 2024

Department of Radiology and Nuclear Medicine, Cantonal Hospital Winterthur, Brauerstrasse 15, Winterthur, CH-8401, Switzerland.

Background: Double vein embolization with simultaneous embolization of the portal and hepatic vein aims to grow the future liver remnant in preparation for major hepatectomy. Transvenous hepatic vein embolization is usually done via a transjugular access. The purpose of this study is to describe the transfemoral approach as an alternative option and to discuss potential advantages.

Purpose: Hemorrhagic stroke, particularly occurring from ruptured cerebrovascular malformations, is responsible for 5-12% of all maternal deaths during pregnancy and the puerperium. Whether endovascular treatment is feasible and safe for both the mother and the fetus, is still a matter of debate. The main objective of this case series and systematic review was to share our multi-institutional experience and to assess the feasibility and safety of endovascular treatment during pregnancy, as well as the corresponding maternal and fetal outcomes based on currently available evidence.

Background: Peri-interventional vasospasm (PIVS) is associated with high risk of delayed cerebral vasospasm (DCVS), delayed cerebral ischemia, and poor outcome after aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage. However, the incidence rate associated with treatment of unruptured intracranial aneurysm (UIA) remains unclear.

Objective: To define the incidence and clinical significance of PIVS in UIA repair based on intraoperative/peri-interventional digital subtraction angiography.

Background: Flow diversion treatment of ruptured cerebral aneurysms remains challenging due to the need for double-antiplatelet therapy. We report our experience with flow-diverter stent (FDS) reconstruction with single-antiplatelet therapy of ruptured cerebral blood blister and dissecting aneurysms.

Methods: In this case series we performed a retrospective analysis of all patients with ruptured cerebral aneurysms who were treated with a phosphoryl-bonded FDS between 2019 and 2022 in a single center.
