Objective: TLR4 plays an important role in the pathogenesis of Guillain-Barré syndrome (GBS). The relationships between polymorphisms and susceptibility to GBS are poorly understood. We investigated the frequency and assessed the association of two single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) in the extracellular domain of (Asp299Gly and Thr399Ile) with disease susceptibility and the clinical features of GBS in a Bangladeshi cohort.
Methods: A total of 290 subjects were included in this study: 141 patients with GBS and 149 unrelated healthy controls. The polymorphisms Asp299Gly and Thr399Ile were genotyped using polymerase chain reaction-restriction fragment length polymorphism (PCR-RFLP) assay.
Results: The minor 299Gly allele was significantly associated with GBS susceptibility (=0.0137, OR = 1.97, 95% CI = 1.17-3.31), and was present at a significantly higher frequency in patients with the acute motor axonal neuropathy (AMAN) subtype of GBS (=0.0120, OR = 2.37, 95% CI = 1.26-4.47) than acute inflammatory demyelinating polyneuropathy (AIDP) subtype (=0.961, OR = 1.15, 95% CI = 0.38-3.48); when compared to healthy controls. The genotype frequency of the Asp299Gly polymorphism was not significantly different between patients with GBS and healthy controls. The Asp299-Thr399 haplotype was associated with a significantly lower risk of developing GBS (=0.0451, OR = 0.63, 95% CI = 0.40-0.99). No association was observed between the Thr399Ile polymorphism and GBS disease susceptibility.
Interpretation: The minor 299Gly allele was associated with increased susceptibility to GBS and the axonal GBS subtype in the Bangladeshi population. However, no associations were observed between the genotypes of the Asp299Gly and Thr399Ile SNPs and antecedent infection or disease severity in Bangladeshi patients with GBS.

Background: The clinical spectrum of COVID-19 is extremely variable. Thus, it is likely that the heterogeneity in the genetic make-up of the host may contribute to disease severity. Toll-like receptor (TLR)-4 plays a vital role in the innate immune response to SARS-CoV-2 infection.

Objective: The aim of the research is to study the prevalence and to determine the prognostic significance of polymorphism ARG753GLN of the TLR-2 gene, Leu412Phe of TLR-3, Asp299Gly of TLR-4 in influenza.
Patients And Methods: Materials and methods: 112 patients with influenza were examined (63 patients with uncomplicated course and 49 with influenza-associated pneumonia). The genotyping of the polymorphic site of ARG753GLN of the TLR-2 gene, Asp299Gly of the TLR-4 gene, and Leu412Phe of the TLR-3 gene was carried out by polymerase chain reaction using oligonucleotide primers.

Objectives: The aim of the study was to evaluate associations between inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) presentation and variants in NOD2, TLR4, TNF-α, IL-6, IL-1β, and IL-RN genes in order to identify possible environmental factors that may affect IBD occurrence, investigate potential predictors for surgical treatment of IBD, and correlate the presence of granulomas in biopsy specimens with clinical characteristics of Crohn's disease (CD) patients.
Patients And Methods: We genotyped 167 IBD patients using PCR-based methodology and tested for disease genotype-phenotype associations.
Results: In CD patients ileal localization of disease was more frequent in NOD2 variant carriers.

Introduction: At the present time, the study of mechanisms of recognition of foreign agents, which is realized by means of Toll-like receptors (TLR) of the innate immune system, has become one of the main tasks of clinical immunology. The aim of our study was to investigate the prevalence of polymorphism of Toll-like receptor 4 (Asp299Gly, Gly299Gly) among children with chronic pyelonephritis (CP) and determine the association of this TLR4 polymorphism with phenotypic features of chronic pyelonephritis and level of interleukin-6 (IL-6).
Materials And Methods: The clinical and laboratory examination of 60 children with chronic pyelonephritis during the stage of exacerbation, who were under inpatient treatment at the pediatric department of Children's Regional Clinical Hospital in Poltava, was performed.
