Modulation of V-type starch structures using aqueous ethanol solutions of different polarities for controlled curcumin encapsulation and release.

Key Laboratory of Jianghuai Agricultural Product Fine Processing and Resource Utilization, Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, Anhui Engineering Research Center for High Value Utilization of Characteristic Agricultural Products, College of Tea & Food Science and Technology, Anhui Agricultural University, Hefei, China. Electronic address:

This study investigated the effect of different-polarity aqueous ethanol solutions on the formation of V-type starch originating from corn starch. Scanning electron microscopy revealed that the morphology of starch transformed from a random lamellar structure to a granular structure with decreasing solution polarity. When the ethanol concentration increased from 40 % to 60 %, the crystallinity and single-helix ratio of V-type starch increased from 9.

The community dynamic alterations mechanisms of traveling plastics in the Pearl River estuary with the salinity influence.

College of Environment and Energy, South China University of Technology, Guangzhou 510006, China; The Key Lab of Pollution Control and Ecosystem Restoration in Industry Clusters, Ministry of Education, Guangzhou 510006, China. Electronic address:

Most ocean plastics originate from terrestrial emissions, and the plastisphere on the plastics would alter during the traveling due to the significant differences in biological communities between freshwater and marine ecosystems. Microorganisms are influenced by the increasing salinity during traveling. To understand the contribution of plastic on the alteration in biological communities of plastisphere during traveling, this study investigated the alterations in microbial communities on plastics during the migration from freshwater to brackish water and saltwater.

Pump-probe response of the spin-orbit coupled Mott insulator Sr_{2}IrO_{4} reveals a rapid creation of low-energy optical weight and suppression of three-dimensional magnetic order on laser pumping. Postpump there is a quick reduction of the optical weight but a very slow recovery of the magnetic order-the difference is attributed to weak interlayer exchange in Sr_{2}IrO_{4} delaying the recovery of three-dimensional magnetic order. We suggest that the effect has a very different and more fundamental origin.

Background: Sweetpotato is a vegetatively propagated crop cultivated worldwide, predominantly in developing countries, valued for its adaptability, short growth cycle, and high productivity per unit land area. In most sub-Saharan African (SSA) countries, it is widely grown by smallholder farmers. Niger, Nigeria, and Benin have a huge diversity of sweetpotato accessions whose potential has not fully been explored to date.
