Luminescent gold nanoclusters (Au NCs) are a promising probe material for selective chemical sensing. However, low luminescent intensity and an incomplete understanding of the mechanistic origin of the luminescence limit their practical implementation. We induced glutathione-capped Au NCs to aggregate within silica-coated microcapsular structures using polymer-salt aggregate self-assembly chemistry. The encapsulated NCs have a 5× luminescence enhancement compared to free Au NCs and can detect Cr(VI) at concentrations as low as 6 ppb (=0.12 μM CrO) through luminescence quenching, compared to free Au NCs, which have a limit of detection (LOD) of 52 ppb (=1 μM CrO). The LOD is 16× lower than the United States Environmental Protection Agency maximum contaminant level for total chromium (Cr(III) + Cr(VI), 100 ppb) in drinking water. No pH adjustment is needed using the encapsulated Au NCs, unlike the case for free Au NCs. The luminescent microcapsule material can sense Cr(VI) in simulated drinking water with a ∼20-30 ppb LOD, serving as a possible basis for a practical Cr(VI) sensor.

One of the most effective ways to solve the problems caused by the presence of steel implants in the body is to apply a coating to them. This study aims to develop and optimize composite coatings of magnesium oxide (MgO), 58S bioactive glass (BG), and N-carboxymethyl chitosan (N-CMC) on stainless steel (SS316L) substrates using the electrophoretic deposition (EPD) method. The synthesized materials were characterized using FTIR, XRD, and SEM to confirm their structure and morphology prior to coating.

Objective: This study aimed to evaluate pulp regeneration by comparing the application of native chitosan-based scaffolds with enzymatically modified chitosan-based scaffolds in mature teeth with apical lesions, using clinical and radiographic assessments.
Methods: The eligibility criteria for this study were participants aged between 15-45 years, free from systemic diseases and with necrotic mature single-rooted teeth with periapical lesions. The teeth were equally and randomly allocated into three groups (1: 1: 1 allocation): Group A received treatment with a Blood Clot (BC) scaffold; Group B with a combination of Native Chitosan and Blood Clot (NCS+BC) scaffold; and Group C with Enzymatically-Modified Chitosan and Blood Clot (EMCS+BC) scaffold.

Lead halide perovskites demonstrate outstanding luminescent characteristics. However, the inclusion of lead components restricts their extensive utilization. Halide perovskite materials, formulated as AM(III)M(I)X or AM(IV)X, possess the potential to serve as stable and eco-friendly substitutes for optoelectronic applications.

Pirquitasite AgZnSnS (AZTS) nanocrystals (NCs) are emergent, lead-free emissive materials in the coinage chalcogenide family with applications in optoelectronic technologies. Like many multinary nanomaterials, their phase-pure synthesis is complicated by the generation of impurities, e.g.

Tunable redox-sensitive polymeric-lipid hybrid nanocarriers (RS-PLHNCs) were fabricated using homogenization and nanoprecipitation methods. These nanocarriers were composed of novel redox-cholesterol with disulfide linkages and synthesized by conjugating cholesterol with dithiodipropionic acid esterification. Berberine (BBR) was loaded into the fabricated nanocarriers to investigate the selective uptake of BBR by cancer cells as well as its release and enhanced cytotoxicity.
