Introduction: Non-parasitic spleen cyst (NSC) is a relatively rare and difficult to diagnose disease, which rapture due to a traumatic impact to the spleen, can lead to the peritonitis.

Case Presentation: We present the case of a 30-year-old woman with a 7.5 × 7.5 × 5 cm NSC, who underwent the microwave ablation (MWA) of the splenic cyst.

Results: The procedure was performed under intravenous anesthesia. MWA of the cysts was performed using a probe placed in the cavity of the cyst, with the frequency of 902-928 MHz delivered during 15 minutes. The postoperative period was uneventful, and the patient was discharged after 2 days.

Conclusion: We demonstrated that MWA can be utilized as a novel, minimally-invasive, and cost-effective approach in NSC treatment.

Introduction: Raising the temperature of abdominal wall endometriosis lesions contributes to an effective ablation; however, providing sufficient protection to the surrounding tissues remains a challenge. In this study, we aimed to combine ultrasound and single-port laparoscopic images to not only achieve complete ablation of abdominal wall endometriosis lesions but also protect surrounding tissues from damage. The adverse events and complications were Common Terminology Criteria for Adverse Events grade 1 or Society of Interventional Radiology classification grade A.

Comparison of radiofrequency ablation, microwave ablation and high-intensity focused ultrasound for hepatocellular carcinoma: a retrospective study.

HPB (Oxford)

January 2025

Department of Surgery, Queen Mary Hospital, 102 Pokfulam Road, Hong Kong, China; Department of Surgery, University of Hong Kong, 102 Pokfulam Road, Hong Kong, China.

Background: The recommended first-line treatment for respectable hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is surgical resection, but local ablation has gained popularity as a safe alternative. This study aims to compare the effectiveness of radiofrequency ablation (RFA), microwave ablation (MWA) and high-intensity focused ultrasound (HIFU) as first-line treatments for HCC.

Methods: In this single-centre retrospective study, 352 patients receiving RFA, MWA, or HIFU as first-line treatment for HCC were included.

Background: Data on overall survival (OS) and progression-free survival (PFS) after microwave ablation (MWA) for intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma (ICC) are scarce. We conducted a systematic review of the safety and efficacy of MWA for ICC.

Methods: The PubMed, Embase, Web of Science, and Cochrane Library databases were searched for studies reporting the outcomes of MWA for ICC.

Objective: To compare the clinical outcomes between radiofrequency ablation (RFA) and microwave ablation (MWA) for the treatment of T1N0M0 papillary thyroid carcinoma (PTC) in a large cohort.

Materials And Methods: This retrospective study included 1111 patients with solitary T1N0M0 PTC treated with RFA (n = 894) or MWA (n = 215) by experienced physicians. A propensity score matching was used to compare disease progression, including lymph node metastases (LNM), recurrent tumors and persistent tumors, recurrence-free survival (RFS), volume reduction ratio (VRR), and complications between the RFA and MWA groups.
