Water buffalo (Bubalus bubalis) is a potential reservoir for Anaplasma marginale in livestock ecosystems of tropical countries. However, their participation in the epidemiological process of bovine anaplasmosis in endemic areas remains unclear. In the present study, the reservoir competence of water buffalo for A. marginale was explored by focusing on the analysis of rickettsemia levels in carrier animals, and the genetic characterization of A. marginale strains from cattle and buffalo. Eight groups of cattle and water buffaloes were randomly selected from cohabiting herds in four livestock ecosystems of Cuba, together with two control groups from unrelated cattle and buffalo herds. A total of 180 adult animals (88 water buffalo and 92 cattle) were sampled. Rickettsemia in carrier animals was determined by quantitative real-time PCR. The rickettsemia (parasitemia) levels in cattle were higher than in buffaloes, however the rickettsemia in buffalo may be enough to infect R. microplus ticks. The genetic diversity of A. marginale was assessed by strain characterization and phylogenetic analysis of 27 msp1α gene sequences. The results showed genetic similarity among strains from cattle and water buffalo, suggesting the occurrence of cross-species transmission.

Heat stress can alter the expression of genes in the individual's molecular response. The identification of these genes makes it possible to better understand the molecular response, identifying biomarker genes and indirect response pathways that can help with genetic improvement studies, animal welfare, separating more thermotolerant varieties and mitigating the effects of heat stress. The aim of this scientometric review was to characterize the state of the art of scientific research into gene expression in ruminants under heat stress, to define the most studied species, biology systems and genes, as well as the related biological pathways and processes.

The emergence of pandrug-resistant (PDR) and extensive drug-resistant (XDR) methicillin-resistant and vancomycin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA and VRSA) isolates from bovine milk samples along with biofilm formation ability and harboring various virulence genes complicates the treatment of bovine mastitis and highlights the serious threat to public health. This study investigated for the first time the frequency, antimicrobial resistance profiles, biofilm-forming ability, virulence factors, spa and staphylococcal cassette chromosome mec (SCCmec) types of MRSA and VRSA isolated from clinical and subclinical bovine mastitis in Egypt. A total of 808 milk samples were collected from each quarter of 202 dairy animals, including 31 buffaloes and 171 cattle.

Urine samples were systematically collected from inseminated Murrah buffaloes (Bubalus bubalis) on days 0, 7, 14, 21 and 28 (with day 0 representing the day of artificial insemination). Following confirmation of pregnancy via trans rectal palpation 45 days of insemination, the animals were categorised into pregnant and non-pregnant groups (n = 10 each). The urine samples on 0, 7, 14, 21 and 28 days of pregnant and one sample from non-pregnant preferably collected on 28th day was used for SDS-PAGE after diafiltration.
