Microbe-mediated synthesis of defect-rich CeO nanoparticles with oxidase-like activity for colorimetric detection of L-penicillamine and glutathione.

College of Biotechnology and Pharmaceutical Engineering, State Key Laboratory of Materials-Oriented Chemical Engineering, Nanjing Tech University, Nanjing 211816, P.R. China.

To enhance production efficiency, curtail costs, and minimize environmental impact, developing simple and sustainable nanozyme synthesis methods has been the focus of relevant research. In this report, graphite-coated CeO nanoparticles (CeO NPs) with multiple defects (Ce defects, oxygen vacancies and carbon defects) were synthesized the culture filtrate of the extremely radioresistant bacterium R12 ( R12). The as-prepared CeO NPs exhibit remarkable oxidase (OXD)-like activity, efficiently catalyzing the oxidation of the chromogenic substrate 3,3',5,5'-tetramethylbenzidine (TMB) to form oxTMB, even in the absence of HO.

Hafnium (Hf)-based nanoscale metal-organic layers (MOLs) enhance radiotherapeutic effects of tissue-penetrating X-rays via a unique radiotherapy-radiodynamic therapy (RT-RDT) process through efficient generation of hydroxy radical (RT) and singlet oxygen (RDT). However, their radiotherapeutic efficacy is limited by hypoxia in deep-seated tumors and short half-lives of reactive oxygen species (ROS). Herein the conjugation of a nitric oxide (NO) donor, S-nitroso-N-acetyl-DL-penicillamine (SNAP), to the Hf secondary building units (SBUs) of Hf-5,5'-di-p-benzoatoporphyrin MOL is reported to afford SNAP/MOL for enhanced cancer radiotherapy.

Unraveling the Growth Mechanism of Chiral Inorganic Nanocrystals via High-Resolution Electron Microscopy.

J Am Chem Soc

December 2024

School of Physical Science and Technology & Shanghai Key Laboratory of High-Resolution Electron Microscopy, ShanghaiTech University, Shanghai 201210, China.

Chiral inorganic nanomaterials have attracted broad interest due to their intriguing chirality-dependent performances. However, there is a lack of experimental studies and atomic-level evidence on their growth mechanism. Herein, high-crystalline chiral tellurium nanowires were synthesized in an alkali solution by using tellurium oxide as an inorganic source and hydrazine hydrate as a reductant.

March 2025

Xiangya School of Public Health, Central South University, Changsha, Hunan, 410078, PR China; Hunan Provincial Key Laboratory of Clinical Epidemiology, Changsha, Hunan, 410078, PR China. Electronic address:

The widespread presence of antibiotic residues in the environment and food represents a significant threat to human health. In this study, a novel MOF-on-MOF (FCZE) gel with excellent peroxidase activity and strong fluorescence properties successfully synthesized by using Polyvinyl pyrrolidone (PVP) as a cross-linker and H₄BTEC as a ligand. Based on the energy transfer from the FCZE ligand to Eu luminescence, an ultrasensitive fluorescence method was developed for the detection of chlortetracycline (CTC), achieving a limit of detection (LOD) as low as 0.

Mechanisms of delta opioid receptor inhibition of parallel fibers-purkinje cell synaptic transmission in the mouse cerebellar cortex.

Brain Res

February 2025

Department of Physiology and Pathophysiology, College of Medicine, Yanbian University, Yanji City, Jilin Province, 133002, China. Electronic address:

Delta opioid receptors (DORs) are widely expressed throughout the central nervous system, including the cerebellum, where they play a regulatory role in neurogenesis. In the cerebellar cortex, Purkinje cells (PCs), the sole output neurons, receive glutamatergic synaptic input from parallel fibers (PFs)-the axonal extensions of granule cells-forming PF-PC synapses. However, the precise distribution of DORs within these synapses and their impact on synaptic transmission remain unclear.
