We consider the ground-state energy and the spectrum of the low-energy excitations of a Majorana island formed of topological superconductors connected by a single-mode junction of arbitrary transmission. Coulomb blockade results in e-periodic modulation of the energies with the gate-induced charge. We find the amplitude of modulation as a function of reflection coefficient R. The amplitude scales as sqrt[R] in the limit R→0. At larger R, the dependence of the amplitude on the Josephson and charging energies is similar to that of a conventional-superconductor Cooper-pair box. The crossover value of R is small and depends on the ratio of the charging energy to superconducting gap.

The advancement of molecular electronics endeavors to build miniaturized electronic devices using molecules as the key building blocks by harnessing their internal structures and electronic orbitals. To date, linear planar conjugated or cross-conjugated molecules have been extensively employed in the fabrication of single-molecule devices, benefiting from their good conductivity and compatibility with electrode architectures. However, the development of multifunctional single-molecule devices, particularly those with unique charge transport properties, necessitates a more rigorous selection of molecular materials.

Carbon-based nanostructures have unparalleled electronic properties. At the same time, using an allotrope of carbon as the contacts can yield better device control and reproducibility. In this work, we simulate a single-electron transistor composed of a segment of a graphene nanoribbon coupled to carbon nanotubes electrodes.

Polymer dielectrics are the key materials for pulsed energy storage systems, but their low energy densities greatly restrict the applications in integrated electronic devices. Herein, a unique bumpy granular interlayer consisting of gold nanoparticles (Au NPs) and polymethyksesquioxane (PMSQ) microspheres is introduced into a poly(vinylidene fluoride) (PVDF) film, forming trilayered PVDF-Au/PMSQ-PVDF films. Interestingly, the Au/PMSQ interlayer arouses a dielectric enhancement of 47% and an ultrahigh breakdown strength of 704 MV m, which reaches 153% of pure PVDF.

The Possion-Nernst-Planck theories fail to describe the ionic transport in Angstrom channels, where conduction deviates from Ohm's law, which is attributed to the dehydration/self-energy barrier and dissociation of Bjerrum ion pairs in previous work. Here, we find that the cations can be strongly bound to the surface charge, which blocks the ionic transport in a single-file water channel, causing nonlinear current-voltage curves. The presence of free ions significantly increases the probability of bound ions being released, resulting in an ionic current.
