We investigate the nature of the phase transition between the period-three charge-density wave and the disordered phase of a hard-boson model proposed in the context of cold-atom experiments. Building on a density-matrix renormalization group algorithm that takes full advantage of the hard-boson constraints, we study systems with up to 9000 sites and calculate the correlation length and the wave vector of the incommensurate short-range correlations with unprecedented accuracy. We provide strong numerical evidence that there is an intermediate floating phase far enough from the integrable Potts point, while in its vicinity, our numerical data are consistent with a unique transition in the Huse-Fisher chiral universality class.

We investigated oscillatory motion of a camphor disk floating on water containing 5 mM hexylethylenediaminium trifluoroacetate (HHexen-TFA) as an ionic liquid (IL). The frequency of the oscillatory motion increased with increasing concentrations of the transition metal ions Cu and Ni but was insensitive to Na, Ca, and Mg, the typical metal ions in the water phase. The surface tension of the water phase containing 5 mM HHexen-TFA also increased with increasing concentrations of Cu and Ni but was insensitive to Na, Ca, and Mg.

The photoisomerization dynamics of azo-escitalopram, a synthetic photoswitchable inhibitor of the human serotonin transporter, is investigated in both gas-phase and water. We use the trajectory surface hopping method─as implemented in SHARC─interfaced with the floating occupation molecular orbital-configuration interaction semiempirical method to calculate on-the-fly energies, forces, and couplings. The inclusion of explicit water molecules is enabled using an electrostatic quantum mechanics/molecular mechanics framework.

Electrocatalytic nitrogen reduction reaction (NRR) is a very attractive strategy for ammonia synthesis due to its energy savings and sustainability. However, the ammonia yield and Faraday efficiency of electrocatalytic nitrogen reduction have been challenges due to low nitrogen solubility and competitive hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) in electrolyte solution. Herein, inspired by the asymmetric wetting behavior, i.

Background: Fast and accurate automatic segmentation of polyps in colonoscopy plays a crucial role in the early diagnosis and treatment of colon cancer. However, the current polyp segmentation algorithms based on deep neural networks suffer from the problems of larger models and lower segmentation accuracy. Meanwhile, achieving accurate segmentation of polyps is to improve the diagnostic efficiency of doctors, and this need motivates us to develop a set of lightweight models so that it can be easily embedded in clinical devices to meet the requirements of practical applications.

Laws of physics shape adaptations to locomotion, and semiaquatic habitats of water striders provide opportunities to explore adaptations to locomotion on water surface. The hydrodynamics of typical propelling with symmetrical strokes of midlegs is well understood, but the subsequent passive sliding on surface has not been explored. We hypothesized that morphological and behavioural adaptations to sliding vary by body size.
