The effects of ionophore antibiotics on the enzyme activity, protein and mRNA expression levels of cytochrome P450 (CYP) isoenzymes were investigated in liver from male Arbor Acres (AA) broiler chicks. Monensin, salinomycin and maduramycin at the dosage of 120, 60, and 5 mg/kg were administered in feed for 14 days. CYP1A and CYP3A activities were quantitated using cocktail probe drugs and a high performance liquid chromatographic (HPLC) assay at the 15th day; the protein expressions of CYP1A and CYP3A were detected by Western blot.

The inhibitory effects of fluoroquinolones on the enzyme activity, protein levels and mRNA expression of liver cytochrome P450 (CYP) 1A and 3A were investigated in male broiler chicks. Enrofloxacin (20 mg/kg), sarafloxacin (8 mg/kg) and marbofloxacin (5.5 mg/kg) were administrated in drinking water for 7 consecutive days.

A rapid confirmatory multi-residue method for the analysis of tetracyclines, sulphonamides, trimethoprim and dapsone by UPLC-MS/MS is described. The method is able to quantify and confirm the following 19 compounds, oxytetracycline, tetracycline, chlortetracycline, doxycycline, sulfadiazine, sulfathiazole, sulfapyridine, trimethoprim, sulfamerazine, sulfamethizole, sulfamethazine, sulfamethoxypyridazine, sulfamonomethoxine, sulfachlorpyridazine, dapsone, sulfamethoxazole, sulfisoxazole, sulfaquinoxaline and sulfadimethoxine. Antibodies against primaquine, pyrimethamine, dapsone, tetracycline, and doxycycline were raised in chickens inoculated with each drug conjugated to a rabbit albumin carrier. Antibody titres against drug and carrier were highest during week 6 postinoculation. Affinity purified anti-primaquine antibodies did not recognise other drugs, but affinity purified anti-doxycycline and anti-tetracycline antibodies recognised both tetracycline and doxycycline in addition to primaquine.
