Neutrophil gelatinase-associated lipocalin (NGAL) is a promising biomarker for diagnosing acute kidney injury (AKI). Currently, there are few assays for determining NGAL and they are complex, time-consuming or expensive. We aimed to establish an efficient immunoassay to measure NGAL in human urine simply and rapidly. A novel immunoassay for NGAL determination was established by combining a dissociation-enhanced-free time-resolved fluoroimmunoassay (TRFIA) and immunomagnetic separation. Based on a "sandwich"-type immunoassay format, analytes in samples were captured by a pair of monoclonal antibodies (mAb) in which one mAb was coated in magnetic beads and the other mAb was labeled with europium(III) chelate microparticles (CM-EUs) as "fluorescent reporters". NGAL concentrations were determined in a linear range (10-1500 ng mL) with a limit of detection of 0.32 ng mL. The reproducibility, recovery, and specificity of our TRFIA were acceptable. Our method was compared with that of a chemiluminescence immunoassay (CMIA) using 115 urine samples, and the results showed good correlation (R = 0.8677). We expect our novel method to be useful for the early diagnosis of AKI.

With the increasing incidence of thyroid cancer worldwide and the increasing demand for surgery, the risk of parathyroid injury is also increasing, which will lead to postoperative hypoparathyroidism (HP) and hypocalcemia. In order to improve the quality of life of patients after surgery, there is an urgent need to develop a novel platform that can identify the parathyroid gland immediately during surgery. The parathyroid gland promotes the increase of blood calcium concentration by secreting parathyroid hormone (PTH).

Background And Aims: Primary nocturnal enuresis (PNE) is a common pediatric condition characterized by involuntary nighttime bed wetting. Primary monosymptomatic nocturnal enuresis (PMNE) is associated with altered antidiuretic hormone (ADH) secretion and lacks lower urinary tract symptoms. This study aimed to compare serum ADH levels between children with PMNE and a comparison group to explore its potential role in the pathophysiology of PMNE.

Introduction: Brucellosis is a widespread zoonotic disease that poses a considerable challenge to global public health. Existing diagnostic methods for this condition, such as serological assays and bacterial culture, encounter difficulties due to their limited specificity and high operational complexity. Therefore, there is an urgent need for the development of enhanced diagnostic approaches for brucellosis.

Aims: This novel longitudinal study investigated the association of the new dysfunctional adiposity index (DAI) with kidney impairment in multi-ethnic Asians with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM), and the mediation effect of pigment epithelium-derived factor (PEDF).
Methods: T2DM adults followed for up to 10.5 years were analyzed (n = 1611).
