Importance: Immunocompromised status is a risk factor for severe SARS-CoV-2 infection. Little is known about how systemic corticosteroid dose and concurrent use of immunosuppressants are associated with COVID-19 outcomes.
Objective: To assess the association between corticosteroid dose/duration and concurrent immunosuppressant use on COVID-19 hospitalisation and death in the era of COVID-19 vaccinations.

Objectives: To investigate the clinical characteristics of cytokine release syndrome (CRS) in children with thalassemia major (TM) after haploidentical hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (haplo-HSCT) and their prognosis.
Methods: A retrospective analysis was performed for the clinical data of 280 children with TM who underwent haplo-HSCT in the Department of Hematology and Oncology, Shenzhen Children's Hospital, from January 2019 to December 2021. According to the CRS criteria, they were divided into two groups: CRS grade <3 (260 children) and CRS grade ≥3 (20 children).

For patients undergoing long-term peritoneal dialysis (PD), exposure to biologically incompatible PD solutions and the consequent peritoneal structure change can lead to progressive angiogenesis and fibrosis, and ultimately result in ultrafiltration failure (UFF). Peritoneal transport studies in aquaporin 1 (AQP1) knockout mice indicate that water transport across the peritoneum is mediated by AQP1, which accounts for up to 50% of ultrafiltration. Another recent study on a large cohort of PD patients with kidney failure further substantiated the impact of AQP1 genotype variation on water channel expression in the peritoneal membrane, influencing water transport, ultrafiltration, and patient prognosis.

Background: Corticosteroids are extensively used in ophthalmology, particularly for treating various inflammatory conditions. Despite their effectiveness, prolonged or high-dose corticosteroid use is associated with significant adverse drug reactions (ADRs), such as increased intraocular pressure, cataract formation, and secondary infections. However, there is currently no systematic study comparing the side effects of ophthalmic corticosteroids.

Up to 10% of uveitis cases occur in children, with notable implications due to the risk of chronicity and vision loss. It can result from infections, autoimmune and autoinflammatory diseases, trauma, or masquerade syndromes. Primary care providers are vital in early detection, symptom management, and timely specialist referral.
