We study the rectification of heat current in an XXZ chain segmented in two parts. We model the effect of the environment with Lindblad heat baths. We show that in our system, rectification is large for strong interactions in half of the chain and if one bath is at a cold enough temperature. For the numerically accessible chain lengths, we observe that the rectification increases with the system size. We gain insight into the rectification mechanism by studying two-time correlations in the steady state. The presence of interactions also induces a strong nonlinear response to the temperature difference, resulting in superlinear and negative differential conductance regimes.

Fluorescent light-up aptamer/fluorogen pairs are powerful tools for tracking RNA in the cell, however limitations in thermostability and fluorescence intensity exist. Current in vitro selection techniques struggle to mimic complex intracellular environments, limiting in vivo biomolecule functionality. Taking inspiration from microenvironment-dependent RNA folding observed in cells and organelle-mimicking droplets, an efficient system is created that uses microscale heated water droplets to simulate intracellular conditions, effectively replicating the intracellular RNA folding landscape.

The evolutionary history underlying gradients in species richness is still subject to discussions and understanding the past niche evolution might be crucial in estimating the potential of taxa to adapt to changing environmental conditions. In this study we intend to contribute to elucidation of the evolutionary history of liverwort species richness distributions along elevational gradients at a global scale. For this purpose, we linked a comprehensive data set of genus occurrences on mountains worldwide with a time-calibrated phylogeny of liverworts and estimated mean diversification rates (DivElev) and mean ages (AgeElev) of the respective genera per elevational band.
