, a Trans-Himalayan plant is an important medicinal herb. In this study, the radio-modulatory efficacy of aqueous root extract of was investigated. Normal Kidney Epithelium cells were treated with extract (50-200 g/ml) and exposed to 3 Gy of γ-radiation, while C57BL/6 mice were administered with extract (300-600 mg/kg BW) intraperitoneally prior to exposure to 7.5 Gy of γ-radiation to assess radiation modulatory efficacy. The administration of extract (30 min and 1 h) prior to radiation exposure improved the survival of NKE cells (as measured by proliferation), restored MMP and ROS levels as compared to radiation-exposed alone cells. These cells showed up-regulated Nrf2 protein levels at 7 h and increased expression of HO-1 and NOQ1 protein at 24 h In mice, the 30 days whole body survival study demonstrated that extract pre-treatment increases survival or delays the onset of radiation-induced mortality as against 70% mortality of 7.5 Gy of γ-radiation. The aqueous extract of roots of enhanced the survival of irradiated NKE cells and rescued C57BL/6 mice against WBI-induced mortality. The radiation modulation efficacy was mediated through cumulative activation of HO-1 and NQO1 downstream of Nrf2 translocation in NKE cells. ARE: Antioxidant Response Element; FITC: Fluorescein isothiocyanate; GCS: Glutamylcysteine synthase; HO-1: Heme oxygenase-1; LPS: Lipopolysacharide; MRP: Multidrug Resistance-Associated Proteins; NQO1: NAD(P)H Quinone Dehydrogenase 1; NRH: Quinone Oxidoreductase 2 (NQO2); PBS: Phosphate Buffer Saline; PKA: Protein Kinase A; PKC: Protein Kinase C; PI3-kinase: Phosphatidylinositol 3-Kinase; SRB: Sulforhodamine B; UV: Ultra-Violet radiation.

The sensitivity of human glioblastoma cells to virus-mediated oncolysis was investigated on five patient-derived cell lines. Primary glioblastoma cells (Gbl13n, Gbl16n, Gbl17n, Gbl25n, and Gbl27n) were infected with tenfold serial dilutions of the Leningrad-3 strain of the mumps virus, and virus reproduction and cytotoxicity were monitored for 96-120 h. Immortalized human non-tumor NKE cells were used as controls to determine the virus specificity.

In a quest of developing carbohydrate derived anti-cancer agents, novel carbohydrate dithioacetal derivatives have been synthesized and evaluated for their potential as anti-proliferative agents against breast cancer cell lines (MCF-7 and MDA-MB-231) as well as non-cancerous kidney epithelial cell line (NKE). Total 18 compounds have been screened and 3 compounds showed promising anti-proliferative activities against cancer cells with low cytotoxicity to the normal cells using MTT assay. The mode of action of the best active compound has been proposed based on several microscopic studies.

Background: Anoikis is a speed-limited procedure to inhibit tumor metastasis during epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT). Previous studies have explored anoikis-related genes (ARG) in predicting prognosis and distinguishing tumoral immunity in many types of cancer. However, the role of ARGs in regulating NK cell exhaustion (NKE) and in predicting chemotherapy sensitivity is not clear.

It is the first report on leaves of Grewia bracteata Roth for its anticancer effect. In this study, three polarity-guided solvent extracts of Grewia bracteata leaves from n-hexane (GLH), ethyl acetate (GLE), and methanol (GLM) were screened for anticancer effects on HeLa, HCT-116, MCF-7, HCT-116 p53 and PC-3 cells via methyl thiazoldiphenyltetrazolium bromide (MTT) assay. Based on the results, GLM was fractionated, and the obtained fractions were tested on HCT-116 cells.

A series of pyrrolidine-based Pd(II) complexes, [Pd(AEP)Cl] (C-1), [Pd(AEP)(OH)](C-2), [Pd(AEP)(L-cys)] (C-3), [Pd(AEP)(N-ac-L-cys)] (C-4), [Pd(AEP)(GSH)] (C-5), and [Pd(AEP)(DL-meth)] (C-6) (where, AEP = 1-(2-aminoethyl)pyrrolidine, L-cys = l-cysteine, N-ac-L-cys = -acetyl-l-cysteine, GSH = glutathione, and DL-meth = dl-methionine), as anticancer drug candidates have been synthesized and characterized. The DNA binding property of the complexes was executed by gel electrophoresis and spectrophotometric and viscometric methods, and their interaction with BSA was also investigated by various spectroscopic methodologies. The binding activity of the Pd(II) complexes with DNA and BSA were assessed to evaluate their binding mode and binding constants.
