Alpha (8-12 Hz) oscillations and default mode network (DMN) activity dominate the brain's intrinsic activity in the temporal and spatial domains, respectively. They are thought to play crucial roles in the spatiotemporal organization of the complex brain system. Relatedly, both have been implicated, often concurrently, in diverse neuropsychiatric disorders, with accruing electroencephalogram/magnetoencephalogram (EEG/MEG) and functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) data linking these two neural activities both at rest and during key cognitive operations.

Background: Insulin is a mainstay treatment for diabetes, but its use is associated with weight gain and hypoglycaemia. Data on the effects of sodium-glucose cotransporter 2 (SGLT2) inhibitors on insulin use in people with chronic kidney disease (CKD) is limited.

Methods: We conducted a post-hoc analysis of the CREDENCE (Canagliflozin and Renal Events in Diabetes with Established Nephropathy Clinical Evaluation) trial.

The Inflammasome: A Promising Potential Therapeutic Target for Early Brain Injury Following Subarachnoid Hemorrhage.

Front Biosci (Landmark Ed)

February 2025

Department of Neurosurgery, Shanxi Bethune Hospital, Shanxi Academy of Medical Sciences, Tongji Shanxi Hospital, Third Hospital of Shanxi Medical University, 030032 Taiyuan, Shanxi, China.

Subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH), a severe cerebrovascular disorder, is principally instigated by the rupture of an aneurysm. Early brain injury (EBI), which gives rise to neuronal demise, microcirculation impairments, disruption of the blood-brain barrier, cerebral edema, and the activation of oxidative cascades, has been established as the predominant cause of mortality among patients with SAH. These pathophysiological processes hinge on the activation of inflammasomes, specifically the nucleotide-binding oligomerization domain-like receptor protein 3 (NLRP3)and absent in melanoma 2 (AIM2) inflammasomes.

Aims: Digital peer support interventions have the potential to promote healthy lifestyles and better mental health. This systematic review and meta-analysis synthesizes evidence on the effectiveness of digital peer support interventions for enhancing physical and mental health in healthy individuals rather than those diagnosed with a clinical condition.

Methods: First, we evaluated the impact of digital peer support interventions on physical and mental health outcomes by attending to sources of peer support (informal, naturally occurring peer support; formal support from trained peers), effectiveness demonstrated through different study designs (pre-post comparison vs.
