In this study, a molecularly imprinted polymer capable of recognizing 15 sulfonamides was first synthesized with sulfabenz as the dummy template. The calculation results from computation simulation showed that the specific 3D conformation of the template had an important influence on the polymer's recognition ability. Then, the polymer was used as recognition reagent to prepare a chemiluminescence sensor on a conventional 96-well microplate for the determination of the residues of 15 sulfonamides in meat (chicken and pork). Due to the 4-(imidazol-1-yl)phenol-enhanced luminol-HO system, the limits of detection for the 15 analytes were in the range of 1.0-12 pg/mL. The recoveries from the standard fortified blank samples were in the range of 72.7-99%. Furthermore, one assay could be finished within 30 min, and the sensor could be reused 4 times. Therefore, this sensor could be used as a very useful tool for routine screening of residues of sulfonamides in meat samples. The rise in antibiotic-resistant genes (ARGs) has recently become a pressing issue, with livestock manure identified as a significant source of these genes. Yet, the distribution of fertilizers derived from livestock manure sold online, potentially containing high levels of ARGs and antibiotic-resistant bacteria (ARB), is often not considered. Poultry litter, commonly used as an organic fertilizer, can contain antimicrobial residues, resistant bacteria, and/or antimicrobial resistance genes. After application to soil, these contaminants can reach crops and be transported to aquatic systems through leaching and runoff. Once in water bodies, they can return to soil and crops through irrigation, establishing a cycle that promotes the selection, spread and persistence of antimicrobial resistance.

Poultry manure is widely used as organic fertilizer in agriculture during the cultivation of crops, but the persistent high-level use of antibiotics in poultry production has raised concerns about the selection for reservoirs of antimicrobial resistance genes (ARGs). Previous studies have shown that the addition of poultry manure can increase the abundance of genes associated with resistance to tetracyclines, aminoglycosides, fluoroquinolones, sulfonamides, bacitracin, chloramphenicol, and macrolide-lincosamide-streptogramin in soil and plants. Understanding the microbial populations that harbor these ARGs is important to identify microorganisms that could enter the human food chain.
