From foraging for food to learning complex games, many aspects of human behaviour can be framed as a search problem with a vast space of possible actions. Under finite search horizons, optimal solutions are generally unobtainable. Yet, how do humans navigate vast problem spaces, which require intelligent exploration of unobserved actions? Using various bandit tasks with up to 121 arms, we study how humans search for rewards under limited search horizons, in which the spatial correlation of rewards (in both generated and natural environments) provides traction for generalization. Across various different probabilistic and heuristic models, we find evidence that Gaussian process function learning-combined with an optimistic upper confidence bound sampling strategy-provides a robust account of how people use generalization to guide search. Our modelling results and parameter estimates are recoverable and can be used to simulate human-like performance, providing insights about human behaviour in complex environments.
Aim: This study aimed to explore the application effect of comfort nursing based on evidence-based concept in radial artery puncture hemostasis of patients after coronary intervention.
Methods: This interventional study included the clinical data of 180 patients who underwent percutaneous radial coronary intervention in Sir Run Run Shaw Hospital, Zhejiang University School of Medicine, from July 2024 to September 2024. All patients were treated with radial artery hemostasis device after operation.
Aim: The prognostic factors and a nomogram applicable to breast cancer (BC) patients with bone metastasis (BM) who received first-line chemotherapy have not been extensively studied. This study aimed to identify prognostic factors and construct a prognostic nomogram to predict overall survival (OS) in this population.
Methods: Data for BC patients with BM undergoing first-line chemotherapy were retrieved from the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results (SEER) database from 2010 to 2016.
Aim: We report a case of proliferative myositis (PM) of the breast, which is the second reported in the English literature.
Case Presentation: A 49-year-old woman underwent surgery due to a fibroadenoma in the right and phyllodes tumor in the left breast. One month after these surgeries, a right breast mass rapidly grew at the surgical site, and biopsy did not provide a diagnosis.
The ability to integrate semantic information into the context of a sentence is essential for human communication. Several studies have shown that the predictability of a final keyword based on the sentence context influences semantic integration on the behavioral, neurophysiological, and neural level. However, the architecture of the underlying network interactions for semantic integration across the lifespan remains unclear.
Despite ongoing efforts, persons with mental illness (PWMI) continue to experience stigma and discrimination and with profound negative outcomes. This study examined the psychological and social impact of the stigma attached to mental illness as experienced by out-patients at a public mental health facility. We applied a descriptive exploratory method using a semi-structured interview guide to elicit subjective responses from 12 Outpatient Department members.
