In order to study the charge effect on the formation of an anion-templated silver cluster, a trivalent tetrahedral anion was incorporated into the silver assembly. A 26-nuclear silver cluster was prepared, and its structure was confirmed by single-crystal X-ray diffraction. Also, the resulting structure was characterized by powder X-ray diffraction data. Its light absorption and photoluminescent properties were studied by solid-state UV diffuse-reflectance and fluorescence spectroscopy. Compared with the other reported silver clusters with tetrahedral anion templates, the more negative VO anion led to the formation of a bigger silver cluster. Also, the supramolecular motif O-H(CHOH)···O(trifluoroacetate) was confirmed on the cluster surface for the first time.

Voltage-dependent anion channel (VDAC) is the primary conduit for regulated passage of ions and metabolites into and out of a mitochondrion. Calculating the solvation free energy for VDAC is crucial for understanding its stability, function, and interactions within the cellular environment. In this article, numerical schemes for computing the total solvation free energy for VDAC-comprising electrostatic, ideal gas, and excess free energies plus the nonpolar energy-are developed based on a nonuniform size modified Poisson-Boltzmann ion channel (nuSMPBIC) finite element solver along with tetrahedral meshes for VDAC proteins.

The crystal structure of the title organic-inorganic hybrid salt, (CHN)[CdCl], (I), has been reported with four mol-ecules in the asymmetric unit in a monoclinic cell [Vassilyeva (2021 ▸). , , 7713-7722]. While using two different aldehydes in the oxidative cyclization-condensation involving CHNH·HCl to prepare a new monovalent cation with the imidazo[1,5-]pyridinium skeleton, a new polymorph was obtained for (I) in space group 1 and a unit cell with approximately half the volume of the monoclinic form.

Mechanistic understanding of the formation of clusters plays a role in designing the structure-dependent properties. Based on the fact that anions act as templates to form spherical polyoxovanadates, various structures were reported by changing anions in the synthetic solution. In this work, another factor in the formation of spherical polyoxometalates was demonstrated.

We report the successful synthesis of the new quaternary, three-dimensional NaSiBSe material using a solid-state synthesis route. This compound is characterized by a unique framework structure that features the rare icosahedral [B] cation which is connected SiSe polyhedral units into a 3D framework structure with Na ions located inside the channels. The NaSiBSe compound crystallizes in the cubic crystal system in the space group 3̄, with lattice parameter = 11.

Natural seawater electrolysis is emerging as a desirable approach for hydrogen production, but it suffers from long-term instability due to severe chloride corrosion. In this study, Zr doped CoO is proposed for natural seawater oxidation, which requires an overpotential of only 570 mV to drive a current density of 100 mA cm, and a sustained natural seawater electrolysis at 10 mA cm for 500h exhibits only 0.78 % decay.
