In a 6-month period, 25 appendices with histological involvement by schistosomiasis were radiographed. Eleven showed varying degrees of radiographically detectable calcification having a spotty, linear, or amorphous pattern affecting either a short segment or the whole appendix. Four of these appendices had a mixed pattern and one also had nodular calcification in the mesoappendix. In only 1 patient was the appendiceal calcification visible on preoperative abdominal radiographs. In 5 asymptomatic patients, not submitted to surgery, appendiceal calcification was detected during radiologic evaluation of urinary schistosomiasis.

An appendiceal mucocele is a rare clinical entity often mimicking that of acute appendicitis in a majority of cases leading to incidental intraoperative findings. Nevertheless, appropriate diagnosis is vital prior to surgery to prevent complications such as pseudomyxoma peritonei. Background: Acute appendicitis is one of the most common surgical emergencies. With antibiotic-first treatment strategies gaining importance, the risk of an appendiceal tumor as an incidental finding or as the cause of appendicitis presents an obstacle to a conservative approach. Neuroendocrine tumors, the most frequent type of appendiceal tumors, are difficult to diagnose preopera-tively due to their small size.

Scrotoliths, or "scrotal pearls," are calcified fibrous loose bodies found within the tunica vaginalis, often seen during radiological evaluation or autopsies. Chronic inflammation due to trauma, parasitic infestations, and torsion and subsequent detachment of the appendices of the testis or epididymis are postulated mechanisms suggested for their formation. They are benign but can mimic a tumor.
