At present, the problem of drug addiction treatment mainly lies in the high relapse rate of drug addicts. Addictive drugs will bring users a strong sense of euphoria and promote drug seeking. Once the drug is withdrawn, there will be withdrawal symptoms such as strong negative emotions and uncomfortable physical reactions.

Despite the WHO recommendations in favor of breastfeeding, most infants receive infant formulas (IFs), which are complex matrices involving numerous ingredients and processing steps. Our aim was to understand the impact of the quality of the protein ingredient in IFs on gut microbiota and physiology, blood metabolites and brain gene expression. Three IFs were produced using whey proteins (WPs) from cheese whey (IF-A) or ideal whey (IFs-C and -D) and caseins, either in a micellar form (IFs-A and -C) or partly in a non-micellar form (IF-D).

The effects of social loss and isolation on partner odor investigation and dopamine and oxytocin receptor expression in female prairie voles.

In humans, grief is characterized by intense sadness, intrusive thoughts of the deceased, and intense longing for reunion with the deceased. Human fMRI studies show hyperactivity in emotional pain and motivational centers of the brain when an individual is reminded of a deceased attachment figure, but the molecular underpinnings of these changes in activity are unknown. Prairie voles (Microtus ochrogaster), which establish lifelong social bonds between breeding pairs, also display distress and motivational shifts during periods of prolonged social loss, providing a model to investigate these behavioral and molecular changes at a mechanistic level.

An intra-brainstem circuitry for pain-induced inhibition of itch.

Neuroscience

Center for Neuroscience, Indian Institute of Science, Bengaluru 560012, India. Electronic address:

Pain and itch are unpleasant and distinct sensations that give rise to behaviors such as reflexive withdrawal and scratching in humans and mice. Interestingly, it has been observed that pain modulate itch through the neural circuits housed in the brain and spinal cord. However, we are yet to fully understand the identities of, and mechanisms by which specific neural circuits mediate pain-induced modulation of itch.

Perfluorinated compounds linked to central precocious puberty in girls during COVID-19: an untargeted metabolomics study.

Front Endocrinol (Lausanne)

January 2025

Department of Pediatrics, Hainan Medical University School of Pediatrics, Hainan Women and Children's Medical Center, Haikou, Hainan, China.

Background And Objective: The incidence of central precocious puberty (CPP) in girls increased significantly during the COVID-19 pandemic. This study aimed to explore the impact of perfluorinated endocrine disruptors on CPP through metabolomics analysis in girls from Hainan Province, China.

Methods: Serum samples from 100 girls with CPP and 100 healthy controls were collected.
