Whisker-type poly(3-hexylthiophene-2,5-diyl) (P3HT) nanofibers were aligned by restricting their growth direction using an approximately 100⁻1000 nm wide narrow groove fabricated by thermal nanoimprinting. In grooves made of an amorphous fluoropolymer (CYTOP™) with widths of less than 1500 nm, the nanofibers oriented uniaxially perpendicular to the groove and their length was limited to the width of the groove. This result indicates that the nucleation of nanofibers tends to be selectively promoted near the interface of CYTOP™ with fluoro-groups, and nanofiber growth perpendicular to the wall is promoted because P3HT molecules are supplied more frequently from the center of the groove. Furthermore, the orientation induced anisotropic conductivity, and the conductivity parallel to the oriented nanofibers was more than an order of magnitude higher than that perpendicular to the oriented nanofibers.

The abundance and sequence of satellite DNA at and around centromeres is evolving rapidly despite the highly conserved and essential process through which the centromere directs chromosome inheritance. The impact of such rapid evolution is unclear. Here we find that sequence-dependent DNA shape dictates packaging of pericentromeric satellites in female meiosis through a conserved DNA-shape-recognizing chromatin architectural protein, high mobility group AT-hook 1 (HMGA1).

Infrared photoluminescence (PL) spectroscopy with micron-scale spatial resolution is essential for the optoelectronic characterization of narrow-gap microstructures and single defects, yet it poses significant challenges due to the exceedingly weak PL signal and strong background thermal emission. This work introduces an infrared micro-PL (μPL) mapping system that achieves a spatial resolution of ∼2 μm, leveraging the inherent advantages of the step-scan Fourier transform infrared spectrometer-based modulated PL technique in the mid- and far-infrared regions. The configuration of the experimental system is described, and a theoretical upper limit of spatial resolution is derived to be about 1.
