Published: May 2019

Water-soluble -CH2- bridged acyclic naphthalene oligomers (WN2 and WN3) were designed and prepared successfully. Interestingly, WN3 can be used in reversible dispersion of carbon nanotubes in water by changing the pH efficiently.

The catalytic asymmetric polyene cyclization of homofarnesol to ambrox.

Nature

August 2024

Max-Planck-Institut für Kohlenforschung, Mülheim an der Ruhr, Germany.

Polyene cyclizations are among the most complex and challenging transformations in biology. In a single reaction step, multiple carbon-carbon bonds, ring systems and stereogenic centres are constituted from simple, acyclic precursors. Simultaneously achieving this kind of precise control over product distribution and stereochemistry poses a formidable task for chemists.

Extraordinary Control of Photosensitized Singlet Oxygen Generation by Acyclic Cucurbituril-like Containers.

J Phys Chem B

April 2023

Supramolecular control of singlet oxygen generation is incredibly valuable for several fields with broad applications and thus still challenging. However, macrocyclic inclusion complexes inherently restrict the interaction of photosensitizers with surrounding oxygen in the media. To circumvent this issue, we turned our attention in this work to acyclic cucurbituril-like containers and uncover their properties as supramolecular hosts for photosensitizers with extraordinary control of their photophysics, including singlet oxygen generation.

In silico evaluation of various regioisomeric 5- and 3-hydroxy-substituted alkyl 1-aryl-1-pyrazole-4-carboxylates and their acyclic precursors yielded promising results with respect to their binding in the active site of dihydroorotate dehydrogenase of (DHODH). Consequently, four ethyl 1-aryl-5-hydroxy-1-pyrazole-4-carboxylates and their 3-hydroxy regioisomers were prepared by two-step syntheses via enaminone-type reagents or key intermediates. The synthesis of 5-hydroxy-1-pyrazoles was carried out using the literature protocol comprising acid-catalyzed transamination of diethyl [(dimethylamino)methylene]malonate with arylhydrazines followed by base-catalyzed cyclization of the intermediate hydrazones.

Department of Applied Chemistry, Kyushu Institute of Technology, 1-1 Sensui-cho, Tobata-ku, Kitakyushu-shi, Fukuoka 804-8550, Japan. Electronic address:

Novel cyclic naphthalene diimides, 8 and 12, containing ferrocene in the cyclic linker were synthesized as G-quartet (G4) specific electrochemical ligands via the reaction of 1,1'-ferrocenedipropanoic acid and the terminal amine moieties of naphthalene diimides with varying linker lengths. The redox potentials of 8 and 12 were ca. 0.
