We have developed a versatile, high-yield synthesis of diarylchloroniums/λ-chloranes through the reaction of various chloroarenes with readily prepared mesityldiazonium tetrakis(pentafluorophenyl)borate under mild conditions. The scope of the reaction is broad, including ArCl, ArBr, and ArI. The diarylchloroniums/λ-chloranes prepared here show unique reactivity in various respects, enabling intermolecular electrophilic arylation reaction of weak nucleophiles, and chlorane-halogane exchange reaction.

An original approach to characterize electrochemical interfaces at the atomic level, a challenging topic toward the understanding of electrochemical reactivity, is reported. We employed surface resonant X-ray diffraction experiments combined with their simulation using first-principle density functional theory calculations and were thus able to determine the molecular and electronic structures of the partially ionic layer facing the electrode surface, as well as the charge distribution in the surface metal layers. Pt(111) in an acidic medium at an applied potential excluding specific adsorption was studied.

BURP domain peptide cyclases, or BpCs (an abbreviation we recommend in this opinion), are an emerging class of copper enzymes which catalyze the oxidative macrocyclization of peptides in plants. A close examination of their novel protein fold, along with the unique dicopper active site that meticulously controls crosslinking within peptides, highlights how nature exploits intricate mechanistic strategies to achieve diverse functionalities. Here, we summarize recent discoveries regarding the sequence, structure, function, and proposed chemistry of BpCs.

Objective: This study aimed to investigate the redox balance in subcutaneous and retroperitoneal fat pads of male and female Wistar rats.
Materials And Methods: The study analyzed the activity and gene expression of the antioxidant enzymes superoxide dismutase, catalase, and glutathione peroxidase, along with the production of NADPH oxidases dependent on HO and gene expression of NOX1, NOX2, and NOX4.
Results: The retroperitoneal fat pad in males compared with females had greater NOX2 and NOX4 expression, along with higher superoxide dismutase activity.

Background: Parkinson's disease (PD) is a neurodegenerative disorder characterized by protein aggregates mostly consisting of misfolded alpha-synuclein (αSyn). Progressive degeneration of midbrain dopaminergic neurons (mDANs) and nigrostriatal projections results in severe motor symptoms. While the preferential loss of mDANs has not been fully understood yet, the cell type-specific vulnerability has been linked to a unique intracellular milieu, influenced by dopamine metabolism, high demand for mitochondrial activity, and increased level of oxidative stress (OS).

ConspectusSkeletal editing, which involves adding, deleting, or substituting single or multiple atoms within ring systems, has emerged as a transformative approach in modern synthetic chemistry. This innovative strategy addresses the ever-present demand for developing new drugs and advanced materials by enabling precise modifications of molecular frameworks without disrupting essential functional complexities. Ideally performed at late stages of synthesis, skeletal editing minimizes the need for the cost- and labor-intensive processes often associated with synthesis, thus accelerating the discovery and optimization of complex molecular architectures.
