Demirkan FG, Yılmaz E, Hangül M, Öztürk D, Demirkan H, Soylak M, Köse M. Exhaled breath condensate magnesium levels of infants with bronchiolitis. Turk J Pediatr 2018; 60: 535-539. The aim of this study is to determine the exhaled breath condensate (EBC) magnesium levels of infants with bronchiolitis and to investigate their relationship with disease severity. Fifty infants with moderate and severe bronchiolitis, grouped according to the bronchiolitis clinical severity scores (CSS), and 25 healthy children were included in the study. EBC was collected using an R tube commercial device; flammable atomic absorption spectrometry was used for the identification of magnesium level in this method. The median concentration of EBC magnesium levels in the group of moderate bronchiolitis patients was 0.82 (0-2.71) μg/ml, and that of severe bronchiolitis patients was 0.57 (0-3.16) μg/ml. The median concentration of EBC magnesium levels in the control group was 0.45 (0.06-2.66) μg/ml. There were no significant differences among the three groups (p > 0.559). The magnesium levels of the two bronchiolitis groups were also found in a wide range. In conclusion, EBC magnesium levels were not different in bronchiolitis patients and do not reflect disease severity.

Magnesium (Mg) is a mineral necessary for many biological activities in mammals. Here, we compared the effect of two Mg compounds [Mg picolinate (MgPic) to Mg oxide (MgO)] on Mg bioavailability and intestinal Mg and calcium transporter protein levels. Three groups of 21 male Wistar-Albino rats were randomly allocated and fed a standard diet (control) or a 500 mg/kg Mg-supplemented (MgPic or MgO) diet for 8 weeks.

The heart of larval serves as a model preparation in addressing cardiac function, as known genetic mutations can be mimicked to examine therapies. Pharmacological agents and function of proteins, like TRPA1, which affect ionic transport and ion concentrations can be investigated for their action on cardiac function in this model. To maintain function, the larval heart tube needs to remain viable; thus, a physiological saline is required.

Introduction: Magnesium is involved in numerous reactions that regulate the functioning of different organs and systems. Hypomagnesemia impacts on the development of various metabolic disorders, including insulin resistance and diabetes mellitus (DM). Studying magnesium levels in children with type 1 DM is crucial, as deficiencies are linked to many diabetes complications.

This report describes cardiovascular and renal soft tissue mineralization and renal intratubular crystals in 13 out of 16 guinea pigs that were given very hard drinking water for 9 months. These animals, aged 14 to 20 months, were experimentally naïve. No clinical symptoms were observed, but 1 guinea pig was found dead in its cage.

BACKGROUND Although hypomagnesemia is common in type 2 diabetes, clinical presentations with severe hypomagnesemia are rare. A number of oral blood glucose-lowering medications can reduce serum magnesium concentrations, and several severe cases have been reported in the presence of marked glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor agonist (GLP-1RA)-associated gastrointestinal adverse effects. In the present case, an acute presentation with severe hypomagnesemia was likely due to polypharmacy including semaglutide, albeit with a delayed relationship to discontinuation of this GLP-1RA, due to nausea and vomiting.
