Introduction: Trauma-induced coagulopathy (TIC) refers to an abnormal coagulation process, an imbalance between coagulation and fibrinolysis due to several pathological factors, such as haemorrhage and tissue injury. Platelet activation and subsequent clot formation are associated with mitochondrial activity, suggesting a possible role for mitochondria in TIC. Comprehensive studies of mitochondrial dysfunction in platelets from severe trauma patients have not yet been performed.

Overdue Calcium Oscillation Causes Polyspermy but Possibly Permits Normal Development in Mouse Eggs.

Int J Mol Sci

December 2023

Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Keio University School of Medicine, 35 Shinanomachi, Shinjuku-ku, Tokyo 160-8582, Japan.

In some non-mammalian eggs, the fusion of one egg and multiple sperm (polyspermy) induces a robust rise in intracellular calcium ion (Ca) concentration due to a shortage of inducers carried by a single sperm. Instead, one of the sperm nuclei is selected inside the egg for normal embryogenesis. Polyspermy also occurs during the in vitro fertilization of human eggs; however, the fate of such eggs is still under debate.

Extramitochondrial ATP as [Ca] and cardiolipin content regulator.

Biochim Biophys Acta Biomembr

December 2023

Department of Muscle Biochemistry, Palladin Institute of Biochemistry, NAS of Ukraine, 9, Leontovich Str., Kyiv 01054, Ukraine. Electronic address:

An ATP-induced increase of [Ca] in myometrium mitochondria matrix at the absence of exogenous Ca was shown. An ATP-induced increase of Сa efflux from mitochondria ([Сa]) has also been shown. Mitochondria membranes were polarized upon incubation in both Mg- and Mg,ATP-medium.

Mitochondria are targets of cold ischemia-reperfusion (IR), the major cause of cell damage during static cold preservation of liver allografts. The bioactivity of methane (CH) has recently been recognized in various hypoxic and IR conditions as having influence on many aspects of mitochondrial biology. We therefore hypothesized that cold storage of liver grafts in CH-enriched preservation solution can provide an increased defence against organ dysfunction in a preclinical rat model of liver transplantation.

Some biochemical properties of the H-Ca-exchanger in uterine smooth muscle mitochondria have been described. The experiments were performed on a suspension of isolated mitochondria from the myometrium of rats. Methods of confocal microscopy, spectrofluorimetry and photon correlation spectroscopy were used.
