The continuation of a baseline pattern of responding into a treatment phase, sometimes referred to as a "transition state," can obscure interpretation of data depicted in single-case experimental designs (SCEDs). For example, when using visual analysis, transition states may lead to the conclusion that the treatment is ineffective. Likewise, the inclusion of overlapping data points in some statistical analyses may lead to conclusions that the treatment had a small effect size and give rise to publication bias. This study reviewed 20 volumes in a journal that publishes primarily SCEDs studies. We defined a transition state as a situation wherein at least the first three consecutive data points of a treatment phase or condition are within the range of the baseline phase or condition. Results indicate that transitions states (a) were present for 7.4% of graphs that met inclusion criteria and (b) occurred for a mean of 4.9 data points before leading to behavior change. We discuss some implications and directions for future research on transition states.

Understanding the experiences of unaccompanied youths in refugee foster care is important to tailor such systems to support the complex needs and desires of these youth. This instrumental case study sought to understand how a cohort of unaccompanied refugee youth experience refugee foster care as they navigate the "in-betweenness" of adolescence. Eight youth (ages 17-21) from Guatemala and Honduras, nine foster parents, and two staff were interviewed.

The photoswitching of supramolecular host-guest complexes is the basis of numerous molecularly controlled macroscopic functions, such as sol-gel transition, photopharmacology, the active transport of ions or molecules, light-powered molecular machines, and much more. The most commonly used systems employ photoactive azobenzene guests and synthetic host molecules, which bind as the stable isomers and dissociate as the forms after exposure to UV light. We present a new, extraordinarily efficient cucurbit[7]uril (CB7)/diazocine host/guest complex with inverted stability that self-assembles under UV irradiation and dissociates in the dark.

We report here a new ligand for the peroxisome-proliferator-activated receptor type α (PPARα), an N-tosyl hydrazone benzopyran that was designed throughout the mapping of the polar zone of the binding site of PPARα; such a compound displays a strong activity on this receptor that is comparable to that of the reference compound WY-14643. For the design of the -tosyl hydrazone benzopyran, we have carried out an exhaustive conformational study of WY-14643 and a previously reported hydrazine benzopyran derivative using conformational potential energy surfaces (PES). This study allowed us to map in a systematic way the entire binding site of the PPARα.

Cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) plays a crucial role in inflammation and has been implicated in cancer development. Understanding the behavior of COX-2 in different cellular contexts is essential for developing targeted therapeutic strategies. In this study, we investigate the fluorescence spectrum of a fluorogenic probe, NANQ-IMC6, when bound to the active site of human COX-2 in both its monomeric and homodimeric forms.

Comonomer defects can induce semicrystalline polymers to form unique crystalline structures (., defect crystals), which can greatly influence the materials' physical properties. However, the formation mechanism and structural evolution of defect polymer crystals are not yet well understood.
