A novel moderately thermophilic, heterotrophic anaerobe, designated strain LG1, was isolated from the Mariner deep-sea hydrothermal vent field along the Eastern Lau Spreading Center and Valu Fa Ridge. Cells of strain LG1 were motile rods, occurring singly or in pairs, 0.6μm in width and 1.2μm in length. The strain LG1 grew between 40 and 70°C (optimum 50-55°C), at a pH between 5 and 8 (optimum pH 6.5) and with 7.5-50gL NaCl (optimum 30gL). Sulfur, cystine and thiosulfate were reduced to sulfide, and cell yield was improved in the presence of cystine. Strain LG1 was an organotroph able to use a variety of organic compounds. Phylogenetic analysis based on 16S rRNA gene sequence comparisons indicated that strain LG1 was affiliated to the genus Marinitoga within the order Petrotogales. It shared 95.34-96.31% 16S rRNA gene sequence similarity with strains of other Marinitoga species, and is most closely related to Marinitoga okinawensis. Genome analysis revealed the presence of a prophage sharing high sequence homology with the viruses MPV1, MCV1 and MCV2 hosted by Marinitoga strains. Based on the data from the phylogenetic analyses and the physiological properties of the novel isolate, we propose that strain LG1 is a representative of a novel species, for which the name Marinitoga lauensis sp. nov. is proposed; the type strain is LG1 (=DSM 106824=JCM 32613).

In recent years, in addition to the positive effects of probiotics and prebiotics on health, increasing research has shown that postbiotics also have significant potential in the health field. Postbiotics are bioactive components produced by probiotic bacteria during fermentation and may exhibit antimicrobial activity. This study investigated the antimicrobial effects of liposomal postbiotics formulated in gel.

Unlabelled: The gut microbiota, a pivotal component of the intestinal mucosal barrier, is critical for host resistance to enteric pathogen infection. Here, we report a novel function of the potentially probiotic strain LG1 ( strain LG1) in maintaining intestinal mucosal barrier integrity and protecting against foodborne () infection. was isolated from the intestinal contents of Chinese Mongolian sheep (MS) and exhibited potential probiotic properties.

A novel thermophilic strain, designated BP5-C20A, was isolated from the shallow hydrothermal field of the Panarea island in the Aeolian archipelago close to Sicily, Italy. Cells are motile rods surrounded with a 'toga', Gram-stain-negative and display a straight to curved morphology during the exponential phase. Strain BP5-C20A is thermophilic (optimum 55 °C), moderately acidophilic (optimum pH 5.

The differential effects of UV-B on the inhibition or activation of protective mechanisms to maintain cells photosynthetically active were investigated in native microalgae. Four strains were used, including two strains, F4 and LG1, isolated from a Mediterranean inland swamp and a recycled cigarette butt's substrate, respectively, and two isolates from an Ecuadorian highland lake related to (PEC) and (ETI). Monocultures were exposed to acute UV-B (1.

In this study, the potential of ultraviolet B (UV-B) radiation to alleviate the effects of pollutants in cigarette butt wastewater (CBW) was investigated using different strains (F4, R1 and LG1). Microalgae were treated with UV-B (1.7 W m) for 3 days prior to their exposure to CBW and then incubated for 4 days in the absence or presence of UV-B.
