In this work, a conceptual process design of wastewater-based algal biofuels production through hydrothermal liquefaction and hydroprocessing is proposed. Then a steady-state process simulation is performed to calculate the mass and energy analysis of the whole process for the production of hydrocarbons such as diesel, jet, gasoline, and H. A discounted cash flow analysis is used to calculate a minimum selling price (MSP) of the hydrocarbon fuels. The MSP of the hydrocarbon fuels is found at US$4.3/GGE. This value is comparable with the previously reported value in the literature. In addition, the sensitivity study is carried out to study the influence of both processes and economic parameters on the minimum selling price (MSP) of the hydrocarbon fuels.

Article Synopsis
  • The study investigates the immediate cardiovascular effects of different cannabis inhalation methods and cannabinoid profiles, focusing on THC and CBD.
  • Researchers assessed arterial stiffness, endothelial function, and cardiac performance in 22 healthy cannabis users before and after using THC-dominant and CBD-dominant strains.
  • Results show that THC use significantly increases heart rate and blood pressure, while CBD does not affect these cardiovascular markers, indicating potential risks associated with THC consumption.

Background: Artemether-lumefantrine (AL) has been the primary anti-malarial drug used to treat uncomplicated Plasmodium falciparum malaria in Ethiopia since 2004. However, there have been recent reports of AL resistance mutations in different African countries, including Ethiopia. This is concerning and requires periodic monitoring of anti-malarial drug resistance.

Background: Pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) is a highly aggressive cancer type that urgently requires effective therapeutic strategies. Andrographolide, a labdane diterpenoid compound abundant in Andrographis paniculata, has anticancer effects against various cancer types, but its anticancer activity and mechanism against PDAC remain largely uncharacterized.

Purpose: This study explores novel drug target(s) and underlying molecular mechanism of andrographolide against PDAC.

Emerging Artemisinin (ART) resistance in Plasmodium falciparum (Pf) poses challenges for the discovery of novel drugs to tackle ART-resistant parasites. Concentrated efforts toward the ART resistance mechanism indicated a strong molecular link of ART resistance with upregulated expression of unfolded protein response pathways involving Prefoldins (PFDs). However, a complete characterization of PFDs as molecular players taking part in ART resistance mechanism, and discovery of small molecule inhibitors to block this process have not been identified to date.

Electronic address:

Background: Our previous research demonstrated that resveratrol counters DDP-induced ototoxicity by upregulating miR-455-5p, which targets PTEN. This study aimed to elucidate the underlying mechanisms involving GAS5 and DNA methyltransferase 1 (DNMT1) in resveratrol's protective action.

Methods: A luciferase reporter assay and RNA immunoprecipitation (RIP) assay were employed to study the binding between GAS5 and miR-455-5p, as well as between miR-455-5p and PTEN.
