Objectives: Histone deacetylase inhibitory and cytotoxic activities of 18 naturally occuring terpenoids (ferutinin, stylosin, tschimgine and guaiol), coumarins (umbelliprenin, farnesiferone B, conferone, feselol, ligupersin A, conferdione, conferoside) and sulfur-containing derivatives (latisulfies A-E, persicasulphides A and C) from the roots of three species of ( and ) were evaluated.
Materials And Methods: The cytotoxic activity of compounds was evaluated against human cancer cell lines (HeLa, HCT116, A2780 and A549) by AlamarBlue® assay using vorinostat as the positive control. On the other hand, we aimed to evaluate their inhibitory activities against pan-HDAC.
Results: The methanolic extract of the roots of was subjected to silica gel column chromatography. Further purification by preparative thin-layer chromatography (PTLC) and semipreparative RP-HPLC yielded twelve known compounds (1-12). This is the first report on the isolation of guaiol (1), persicasulphide C (3) and conferoside (10) from the roots of . Six compounds including persicasulfide A, conferone, feselol, latisufide C, conferoside and ferutinin showed cytotoxic activity with IC values in the range of 11.61-49.40 μM against cancer cells and pan-HDAC inhibitory activity with IC values in the range of 1.06-35.27 μM.
Conclusion: Results indicated that persicasulfide A (2), conferone (6) and feselol (7) showed moderate cytotoxicity with IC50 values in the range of 11.76-39.24 μM against cancer cells and potent pan-HDAC inhibitory activity with IC values in the range of 1.06-10.73 μM. Conferone was more active than others with a higher potency for HDAC inhibition (1.06- 1.17 μM).

Background: To identify the relationship between BMI or lipid metabolism and diabetic neuropathy using a Mendelian randomization (MR) study.
Methods: Body constitution-related phenotypes, namely BMI (kg/m), total cholesterol (TC), and triglyceride (TG), were investigated in this study. Despite the disparate origins of these data, all were accessible through the IEU OPEN GWAS database ( https://gwas.

Background: In the intensive care unit (ICU), the incidence of iron-deficiency anemia (IDA) is relatively high and is associated with various adverse clinical outcomes. Therefore, it is crucial to identify simple and practical indicators to assess the mortality risk in ICU patients with IDA. This study aims to investigate the relationship between the Neutrophil Percentage-to-Albumin Ratio (NPAR) levels in patients with IDA in the ICU and their all-cause mortality at 30 and 365 days.

Background: In this work, we implement a data-driven approach using an aggregation of several analytical methods to study the characteristics of COVID-19 daily infection and death time series and identify correlations and characteristic trends that can be corroborated to the time evolution of this disease. The datasets cover twelve distinct countries across six continents, from January 22, 2020 till March 1, 2022. This time span is partitioned into three windows: (1) pre-vaccine, (2) post-vaccine and pre-omicron (BA.

Sound-based uroflowmetry (SU) offers a non-invasive alternative to traditional uroflowmetry (UF) for evaluating lower urinary tract dysfunctions, enabling home-based testing and reducing the need for clinic visits. This study compares SU and UF in estimating urine flow rate and voided volume in 50 male volunteers (aged 18-60), with UF results from a Minze uroflowmeter as the reference standard. Audio signals recorded during voiding were segmented and machine learning algorithms (gradient boosting, random forest, and support vector machine) estimated flow parameters from three devices: Ultramic384k, Mi A1 smartphone, and Oppo smartwatch.

The Cardiometabolic Index (CMI) is a well-recognized risk factor for a range of cardiovascular diseases and diabetes mellitus. However, the population-level characteristics of CMI and its potential association with mortality risk among individuals over 40 years of age have not been investigated. This study aims to assess the association between CMI and both all-cause and cardiovascular mortality among the middle-aged and elderly population.
