During bacterial conjugation, plasmid DNA is transferred from cell to cell. In Agrobacterium fabrum, conjugation is regulated by the phytochrome photoreceptors Agp1 and Agp2. Both contribute equally to this regulation. Agp1 and Agp2 are histidine kinases, but, for Agp2, we found no autophosphorylation activity. A clear autophosphorylation signal, however, was obtained with mutants in which the phosphoaccepting Asp of the C-terminal response regulator domain is replaced. Thus, the Agp2 histidine kinase differs from the classical transphosphorylation pattern. We performed size exclusion, photoconversion, dark reversion, autophosphorylation, chromophore assembly kinetics and fluorescence resonance energy transfer measurements on mixed Agp1/Agp2 samples. These assays pointed to an interaction between both proteins. This could partially explain the coaction of both phytochromes in the cell.

To explore the immunomodulatory activity of polysaccharides from Ampelopsis grossedentata, two polysaccharides named AGP1 and AGP2 were isolated and purified by DEAE-cellulose 52 column and Sephacryl S-300HR chromatography. AGP1 and AGP2 were composed of fucose, arabinose, rhamnose, galactose, glucose, mannose, galacturonic acid, and glucuronic acid, with a ratio of 0.5: 10.

Alpha-1-acid glycoprotein (AGP) is a heterogeneous glycoprotein fulfilling key roles in many biological processes, including transport of drugs and hormones and modulation of inflammatory and immune responses. The glycoform profile of AGP is known to change depending on (patho)physiological states such as inflammatory diseases or pregnancy. Besides complexity originating from five N-glycosylation sites, the heterogeneity of the AGP further expands to genetic variants.

Objectives: The study aimed to analyze different ways to control air quality during/after aerosol-generating procedures (AGPs) in a small skills lab with restricted natural air ventilation in preclinical dental training (worst-case scenario for aerogen infection control). Different phases were investigated (AGP1: intraoral high-volume evacuation (HVE); AGP2: HVE plus an extraoral mobile scavenger (EOS)) and afterward (non-AGP1: air conditioning system (AC), non-AGP2: AC plus opened door).
Methods: Continuous data collection was performed for PM1, PM2.

Phytochromes, found in plants, fungi, and bacteria, exploit light as a source of information to control physiological processes photoswitching between two states of different physiological activity, a red-absorbing Pr and a far-red-absorbing Pfr state. Depending on the relative stability in the dark, bacterial phytochromes are divided into prototypical and bathy phytochromes, where the stable state is Pr and Pfr, respectively. In this work we studied representatives of these groups (prototypical Agp1 and bathy Agp2 from ) together with the bathy-like phytochrome BphP from by resonance Raman and IR difference spectroscopy.

The α1-acid glycoprotein (AGP) is an abundant blood plasma protein with important immunomodulatory functions coupled to endogenous and exogenous ligand-binding properties. Its affinity for many drug-like structures, however, means AGP can have a significant effect on the pharmokinetics and pharmacodynamics of numerous small molecule therapeutics. Staurosporine, and its hydroxylated forms UCN-01 and UCN-02, are kinase inhibitors that have been investigated at length as antitumour compounds.
