The recent development of eumelanin pigment-based blends integrating "classical" organic conducting materials is expanding the scope of eumelanin in bioelectronics. Beyond the achievement of high conductivity level, another major goal lays in the knowledge and feasible control of structure/properties relationship. We systematically investigated different hybrid materials prepared by polymerization of the eumelanin precursor 5,6-dihydroxyindole (DHI) in presence of various amounts of graphene-like layers. Spectroscopic studies performed by solid state nuclear magnetic resonance (ss-NMR), x-ray photoemission, and absorption spectroscopies gave a strong indication of the direct impact that the integration of graphene-like layers into the nascent polymerized DHI-based eumelanin has on the structural organization of the pigment itself, while infrared, and photoemission spectroscopies indicated the occurrence of negligible changes as concerns the chemical units. A tighter packing of the constituent units could represent a strong factor responsible for the observed improved electrical conductivity of the hybrid materials, and could be possible exploited as a tool for electrical conductivity tuning.

Bioelectrical Impedance Vector Analysis (BIVA) is a valuable tool for evaluating hydration and body composition, but its application in subacute post-stroke patients remains unexplored. This study aimed to fill this gap by analyzing BIVA in a cohort of 87 subacute post-stroke patients (42 women, mean age 69 ± 12) undergoing rehabilitation. At admission (T0), diagnosis of malnutrition with GLIM criteria and of sarcopenia with EWGSOP2 was done, and patients were analyzed with BIVA.

NbO has become a focus of research for its suitability as an anode material in sodium ion capacitors (SICs), due to its open ionic channels. The integration of NbO with reduced graphene oxide (rGO) is known to boost its electrical conductivity. However, the sluggish interfacial charge transfer kinetics and interface collapse of NbO/rGO pose challenges to its rate capability and durability.

Conductive hydrogels are an appealing class of "smart" materials with great application potential, as they combine the stimuli-responsiveness of hydrogels with the conductivity of magnetic fillers. However, fabricating multifunctional conductive hydrogels that simultaneously exhibit conductivity, self-healing, adhesiveness, and anti-freezing properties remains a significant challenge. To address this issue, we introduce here a freeze-thawing approach to develop versatile, multiresponsive composite cryogels able to preserve their features under low-temperature conditions.

To overcome the barriers often met by traditional ophthalmic formulations, polymeric films can be utilized as an alternative to enhance drug retention duration while managing medication release. In the current investigation, polymeric films made of poly (vinyl) alcohol (PVA) and chitosan (CS) loaded with Moxifloxacin Hydrochloride (M-HCl) and plasticized with Glutaraldehyde were formulated as potential ophthalmic delivery for the treatment of conjunctivitis. The thickness, surface pH, opacity, folding endurance, and % hemolysis were measured, followed by the transparency, microscopy, electrical conductivity, mechanical strength, swelling index, and invitro drug release studies.

Use of desalinated seawater in arid and semiarid regions for domestic, industrial, and agricultural purposes is on the rise. Consequently, in those regions, drinking water offered to lactating cows has lower salinity and mineral concentrations than in the past. Although water with total dissolved solids (TDSs) of up to 1 000 ppm is considered safe for drinking, lower salinity level may affect rumen physiology, feed and water intake, or milk yield.
