Objectives: This study aimed to determine the in vitro susceptibility of commonly encountered Gram-negative bacilli (GNB) recovered from patients admitted to intensive care units (ICUs) in Taiwan against colistin, carbapenems, and other comparative agents.
Methods: In total, 758 nonduplicate GNB isolates were obtained from clinical specimens of ICU patients at seven medical centers in 2016. Minimum inhibitory concentrations (MICs) were determined using the Vitek 2 susceptibility system. The reference broth-microdilution method was performed to determine MICs of colistin. Five main carbapenemase genes among carbapenem-non-susceptible GNB and - genes among colistin non-wild-type or -resistant isolates were determined.
Results: After exclusion 38 and 13 spp. among 361 Enterobacteriaceae isolates, 34 (9.4%) isolates were carbapenem-insusceptible, 91.1% (n=31) were colistin wild type, and three and one isolates carried and -like, respectively. Carbapenem-insusceptible isolates were found in 23.4% (30 of 128) and 63.0% (87 of 138) of isolates of the and complex, respectively. was detected in two (1.8%) isolates. Very major errors between two methods of susceptibility to colistin were found in 1.5% of , 27.5% of , 4.7% of , and 10.1% of complex isolates.
Conclusion: In this study, 8.7% of Enterobacteriaceae isolates from ICUs were not susceptible to carbapenem, and and -like were found among three and one carbapenem-insusceptible isolates, respectively. Colistin MICs determined by Vitek 2 were not reliable, especially for and complex isolates.

Aims: Atrial septal defect (ASD) and partial abnormal pulmonary venous connection (PAPVC) are noncyanotic congenital heart defects (CHD) that produce a left-to-right shunt. This single-center retrospective study aimed to assess the hemodynamic impact of isolated ASD, isolated PAPVC, and ASD-associated PAPVC using cardiovascular magnetic resonance (CMR).
Methods And Results: From our CMR registry (2002-2024), 110 patients were included: isolated ASD (n=64), isolated PAPVC (n=18), ASD-associated PAPVC (n=28, mostly sinus venosus septal defects).

Blood-based biomarkers for Alzheimer's disease (AD) pathology have been intensively investigated as markers for AD-related neurodegeneration. Comorbid AD pathology is common in dementia with Lewy bodies (DLB). Accordingly, we hypothesized that plasma biomarkers associated with AD pathology might be useful to predict DLB in a cohort of idiopathic/isolated REM sleep behavior disorder (iRBD), an incipient synucleinopathy.

This article describes results of a qualitative analysis of the participants' experiences, explores virtual communication platform use during this peer support program, and identifies the program's beneficial elements.
Method: CIRCLE was inaugurated in October 2020 at Rutgers New Jersey Medical School and Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School using evidence-informed topics.

Purpose: This study examined the occurrence and MRI characteristics of perinatal arterial ischemic stroke (PAIS) in children with cerebral palsy (CP) and suspected term hypoxic-ischemic injury (HII).
Methods: A retrospective review of brain MRI scans was conducted on children with CP and suspected term HII in South Africa.
Results: Out of 1620 children with CP included in the study, 15 (0.

The search for evidence of past prebiotic or biotic activity on Mars will be enhanced by the return of samples to Earth laboratories. While impressive analytical feats have been accomplished by in situ missions on the red planet, accessing the capabilities of Earth's global laboratories will present a step change in data acquisition. Highly diagnostic markers of past life are biomarkers, organic molecules whose architecture can be attributed to once living organisms.
