Nicotine, the main toxic component of tobacco, directly or indirectly causes adverse effects on the liver metabolism. Melatonin, secreted by the pineal gland, has anti-apoptotic activity as well as antioxidant activity. The aim of this study was to reveal the antiapoptotic effects of melatonin in rats with experimentally induced chronic liver damage with nicotine.

Department of Respiratory and Critical Care Medicine, Affiliated Hospital of Nantong University, Medical School of Nantong University, Nantong, 226001, China.

Background: Lung cancer is a life-threatening disease that occurs worldwide, but is especially common in China. The crucial role of the tumour microenvironment (TME) in non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) has attracted recent attention. Cancer-associated fibroblasts (CAFs) are the main factors that contribute to the TME function, and CAF exosomes are closely linked to NSCLC.

Background: To investigate SCL/TAL 1 interrupting locus ()'s role and prognostic significance in lung adenocarcinoma (LUAD) progression, we examined and E2 promoter binding factor 1 (E2F1) expression and their impacts on LUAD prognosis using Gene Expression Profiling Interactive Analysis (GEPIA).

Methods: Functional assays including CCK-8, wound-healing, 5-ethynyl-2-deoxyuridine (EdU), Transwell assays, and flow cytometry, elucidated and E2F1's effects on cell viability, proliferation, apoptosis, and migration. Gene set enrichment analysis (GSEA) identified potential pathways, while metabolic assays assessed glucose metabolism.

Nanobubbles are studied for their unique properties and possible applications in wound healing processes. This study investigates the effects of hydrogen (H₂), oxygen (O₂), and ozone (O₃) nanobubbles on fibroblast migration and proliferation using  scratch wound healing assays. Fibroblast cells were treated with Dulbecco's Modified Eagle Medium (DMEM) combined with nanobubble solutions, and cell density was measured at 24 and 48 hours.

Proliferative potential and angiogenic characteristics of blood outgrowth endothelial cells derived from middle-aged and older adults.

J Geriatr Cardiol

November 2024

Department of Laboratory Medicine, Affiliated Sixth People's Hospital South Campus, Shanghai Jiaotong University, Shanghai, China.

Objectives: Autologous blood outgrowth endothelial cells (BOECs) have been proposed to induce therapeutic angiogenesis for treating cardiovascular diseases (CVDs). The aim of the present study was to investigate the proliferative potential and angiogenic characteristics of BOECs among middle-aged and older adults, the population particularly susceptible to CVDs.

Methods: BOECs were isolated from 48 peripheral blood samples of subjects aged 56 ± 4 years.
