Association between antinuclear antibodies status and preterm birth in Japanese pregnant women: a prospective cohort study from Adjunct Study of the Japan Environment and Children's Study.

BMC Pregnancy Childbirth

December 2024

Kumamoto University Regional Centre, The Japan Environment and Children's Study (JECS), 718, Medical Research Building, 1-1-1 Honjo, Chuo-ku, Kumamoto, Kumamoto, 860-8556, Japan.

Background: Antinuclear antibodies (ANA) are important biomarkers for the diagnosis of autoimmune diseases; however, the general population also tests positive at a low frequency, especially in women. Although the effects of various autoimmune diseases on pregnancy outcomes have been studied, the association of ANA with pregnancy outcomes in healthy individuals is unclear. Preterm birth (PTB), a major cause of neonatal death or long-term health problems, is a complex condition with a multifactorial etiology, and the underlying mechanism remains unclear.

Objectives: Platelet transfusion refractoriness (PTR) is a frustrating clinical problem, and primary and persistent (P/P) PTR who experienced persistent PTR since the first transfusion was failed to be well recognized. This study aims to investigate the incidence and risk factors for P/P PTR.

Methods: Patients with hematologic disorders who underwent HLA high-resolution genotyping and donor-specific HLA antibody or panel reactive antibody (PRA) testing between January 2019 and March 2023 were reviewed.

This study aimed to examine whether a reported SSc-associated SNP rs2841277 in the PLD4 gene identified in an Asian population was also associated with SSc in European American (EA). The EA cohort consisting of 1005 SSc patients and 961 healthy controls was examined in this study. TaqMan genotyping assays were performed to examine the SNP.

Identifying which patients should undergo serologic screening for celiac disease (CD) may help diagnose patients who otherwise often experience diagnostic delays or remain undiagnosed. Using anonymized outpatient data from the electronic medical records of Maccabi Healthcare Services, we developed and evaluated five machine learning models to classify patients as at-risk for CD autoimmunity prior to first documented diagnosis or positive serum tissue transglutaminase (tTG-IgA). A train set of highly seropositive (tTG-IgA > 10X ULN) cases (n = 677) with likely CD and controls (n = 176,293) with no evidence of CD autoimmunity was used for model development.

Introduction: Unfolded Von Willebrand Factor (VWF) is increased in thrombotic pathologies such as myocardial infarction. Unfolded VWF mediates the binding of platelets without the need for collagen. β-glycoprotein I (β-GPI) is a natural inhibitor of the platelet-VWF interaction.
