We report on an extensive study of the elastic scattering time τ_{s} of matter waves in optical disordered potentials. Using direct experimental measurements, numerical simulations, and comparison with the first-order Born approximation based on the knowledge of the disorder properties, we explore the behavior of τ_{s} over more than 3 orders of magnitude, ranging from the weak to the strong scattering regime. We study in detail the location of the crossover and, as a main result, we reveal the strong influence of the disorder statistics, especially on the relevance of the widely used Ioffe-Regel-like criterion kl_{s}∼1. While it is found to be relevant for Gaussian-distributed disordered potentials, we observe significant deviations for laser speckle disorders that are commonly used with ultracold atoms. Our results are crucial for connecting experimental investigation of complex transport phenomena, such as Anderson localization, to microscopic theories.

Effective detection is critical for terahertz applications, yet it remains hindered by the unclear mechanisms that necessitate a deeper understanding of photosensitive materials with exotic physical phenomena. Here, we investigate the terahertz detection capabilities of the two-dimensional antiferromagnetic semimetal NbFeTe. Our study reveals that the interaction between antiferromagnetic magnetic moments and electron spin induces disordered carriers to hop between localized states, resulting in a nonlinear increase in responsivity as temperature decreases.

Drunkorexia refers to high-risk behaviors that involve the intersection of disordered eating behaviors and risky alcohol consumption. This study utilized the extended Theory of Planned Behavior (TPB) to identify potential psychosocial factors that contribute to drunkorexia among students (484 undergraduate students) from a midwestern Mid-sized university. This cross-sectional study used online surveys designed to measure various drunkorexia-related behaviors including alcohol consumption, calorie restriction, excessive exercise, and purging utilizing antecedents of the TPB.

This study presents two cases of central sleep apnea syndrome in children, highlighting the utility of assessing ventilatory control stability, particularly loop gain and central chemosensitivity in treatment decision-making. In the first case, elevated loop gain for oxygen correlated with periodic breathing, leading to successful treatment with supplemental oxygen in a 13 year-old boy with Prader-Willi-like syndrome. Conversely, in the second case, dealing with a 10 year-old girl with tumor in the brainstem-spinal cord junction, reduced loop gain prompted treatment with nocturnal non-invasive ventilation.
