The automatic classification of posts from hacking-related online forums is of potential value for the understanding of user behaviour in social networks relating to cybercrime. We designed annotation schema to label forum posts for three properties: post type, author intent, and addressee. The post type indicates whether the text is a question, a comment, and so on. The author's intent in writing the post could be positive, negative, moderating discussion, showing gratitude to another user, etc. The addressee of a post tends to be a general audience (e.g. other forum users) or individual users who have already contributed to a threaded discussion. We manually annotated a sample of posts and returned substantial agreement for post type and addressee, and fair agreement for author intent. We trained rule-based (logical) and machine learning (statistical) classification models to predict these labels automatically, and found that a hybrid logical-statistical model performs best for post type and author intent, whereas a purely statistical model is best for addressee. We discuss potential applications for this data, including the analysis of thread conversations in forum data and the identification of key actors within social networks.

While recycling irrigation water can reduce water use constraints and costs in nurseries, adoption is hindered by the associated risk of recirculating and spreading waterborne pathogens. To enable regional water re-use, this study assessed oomycete re-circulation risks and recycled water treatment efficacy at organismal and community scales. In culture-based analysis of recycled pond water at two Mid-Atlantic nurseries across three years, diverse oomycetes (12+ species) were detected using culture-based analysis, with Phytopythium helicoides as the dominant species; MiSeq analysis detected eight of these species, plus 24 additional taxa.

The aim of this study was to evaluate the role of CFR-PEEK nails in patients with metastatic bone disease (MBD). We performed a retrospective cohort study evaluating patients with MBD undergoing intramedullary (IM) nailing for prophylaxis or fixation of pathological fractures using CFR- PEEK or titanium implants.

Babesiosis in sickle cell disease (SCD) is marked by severe anemia but the underlying red blood cell (RBC) rheological parameters remain largely undefined. Here, we describe altered RBC deformability from both primary (host RBC sickle hemoglobin mediated) and secondary changes (Babesia parasite infection mediated) to the RBC membrane using wild type AA, sickle trait AS and sickle SS RBCs. Our ektacytometry (LORRCA) analysis demonstrates that the changes in the host RBC bio-mechanical properties, pre- and post- Babesia infection, reside on a spectrum of severity, with wild type infected AA cells, despite showing a significant reduction of deformability under both shear and osmolarity gradients, exhibiting only a mild phenotype; compared to infected AS RBCs which show median changes in deformability and infected SS RBCs which exhibit the most dramatic impact of infection on cellular rheology, including an increase in Point of Sickling values.

Background: Acute ischemic stroke treatment typically involves tissue-type plasminogen activator (tPA) or tenecteplase, but about 50% of patients do not achieve successful reperfusion. The causes of tPA resistance, influenced by thrombus composition and timing, are not fully clear. Neutrophil extracellular traps (NETs), associated with poor outcomes and reperfusion resistance, contribute to thrombosis.

Background: Cholera outbreaks are surging worldwide. Growing research supports case-area targeted interventions (CATIs), whereby teams provide a package of interventions to case and neighboring households, as an effective strategy in cholera outbreak control, particularly in humanitarian settings. While research exists on individual CATI interventions, research gaps exist on outcomes of integrated interventions during CATI responses.
