The nursing profession is tasked with identifying and evaluating models of care with potential to add value to health care delivery. In consideration of this goal, we describe the Clinical Nurse Leader (CNL) initiative and the activities of a national-level CNL research collaborative. The CNL initiative, launched by the American Association of Colleges of Nursing in collaboration with education and healthcare leaders, has delineated CNL education curriculum and practice competencies, and fostered the creation of academic-practice-policy partnerships to pilot CNL integration into frontline nursing care delivery. The partnership has evolved into an Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality affiliate practice-based research network, the CNL Research Collaborative, which links research, policy, education, and practice stakeholders to advance the CNL evidence base. We summarize foundational CNLRC research to explain CNL practice, quantify CNL effectiveness, and bring clarity to how CNLs can be implemented to consistently influence care, quality, and safety.

Introduction: Annual screening for hydroxychloroquine (HCQ) retinopathy is recommended, and electroretinography (ERG) is considered a gold-standard test, but there are screening shortfalls and standard ERG is burdensome and has limited availability. Newer, portable ERG devices using skin-based electrodes may increase screening capacity but need validation. This study aims to determine initial device accuracies and feasibility of further research.

Salicylic acid (SA) is a prominent defense hormone whose basal level, organ-specific accumulation, and physiological role vary widely among plant species. Of the two known pathways of plant SA biosynthesis, the phenylalanine ammonia lyase (PAL) pathway is more ancient and universal but its biosynthetic and physiological roles in diverse plant species remain unclear. Studies in which the PAL pathway is specifically or completely inhibited, as well as a direct comparison of diverse species and different organs within the same species, are needed.

Myeloproliferative neoplasms (MPNs) are clonal hematopoietic cancers characterized by hyperproliferation of the myeloid lineages. These clonal marrow disorders are extremely rare in pediatric patients. MPN is reported to occur 100 times more frequently in adults, and thus research is primarily focused on this patient group.

Chronic neutrophilic leukemia (CNL) is a very rare myeloid neoplasm characterized by peripheral blood neutrophilia and a hypercellular marrow with increased granulopoiesis. An activating mutation in CSF3R is present in 80% to 90% of cases. CNL displays some biological overlap in terms of clinical presentation and behavior, as well as genetic profile, with several other myeloid neoplasms, particularly myelodysplastic/myeloproliferative neoplasms (MDS/MPN) and other MPN.
