Optical coherence tomography is designed to evaluate qualitative and quantitative changes of the anterior segment, optic nerve and the retina. Initial applications of this technology were confined mainly to ophthalmic diseases. However recently, numerous studies have evaluated its use in systemic conditions and in therapeutics where, optic nerve and retinal architecture can be assessed to monitor progression of systemic conditions and its response to treatment. This is a narrative review aimed at evaluating the debate surrounding the role of spectral domain optical coherence tomography, in systemic conditions where optic nerve affection can be measured and be used in the diagnosis, monitoring and assessment of treatment effect as a non-invasive, quick, novel technique.

Single soliton microcomb combined with optical phased array for parallel FMCW LiDAR.

Nat Commun

The frequency-modulated continuous-wave (FMCW) technology combined with optical phased array (OPA) is promising for the all-solid-state light detection and ranging (LiDAR). We propose and experimentally demonstrate a silicon integrated OPA combined with an optical frequency microcomb for parallel LiDAR system. For realizing the parallel wavelengths emission consistent with Rayleigh criterion, the wide waveguide beyond single mode region combined with the bound state in the continuum (BIC) effect is harnessed to obtain an ultra-long optical grating antenna array.

Purpose: In this study, it was planned to compare the macular ganglion cell analysis (GCA) and peripapillary retinal nerve fiber layer (pRNFL) of the patients with preperimetric glaucoma (PPG), early stage glaucoma (EG) and the control group.

Methods: This retrospective study included a total of 103 eyes: 38 from EG patients, 30 from PPG patients, and 35 from healthy individuals at Ankara Bilkent City Hospital Glaucoma Unit between January 2018 and September 2021. Eyes were categorized into control, PPG, and EG groups based on visual field (VF) classification.

Purpose: To utilize optical coherence tomography (OCT) and SS-OCT angiography (SS-OCTA) for quantifying morphological changes seen in eyes with recalcitrant neovascular age-related macular degeneration (nAMD) transitioned to intravitreal faricimab injections during the manufacturer's recommended induction phase of treatment.

Methods: Fifty-four treatment-recalcitrant patients (60 eyes) were recruited. OCT and SS-OCTA images were obtained at 0 and 3 months.
